Alas my darling girl did not do so well.

It was a rocky beginning, after amputation.  But with steady progress, we were increasingly hopeful about her chances.

Unfortunately, she became acutely ill a few days ago (lethargy, emesis, fever), and was diagnosed with pneumonia.  Later rad's showed she'd developed a cyst/bulla in her lungs, and there was air in her thorax, as well.

There were so many factors to consider, but even my eternally-optimistic team of specialists (internist, orthopaedist, oncologist) felt the prognosis for a surgical repair was extremely low.  We were given the option of doing surgery once the pneumonia was under control, or leaving her at the hospital for more treatment and observation but, all things considered (none of them lightly), we decided to euthanize her.   It was 14 days post-amputation, 9 days post-first-independent-steps, and 2 days after her sudden onset of pneumonia symptoms.

I'm so new here, I don't expect to be back, even though this is a fabulous source of support.  But I wanted to let those of you following our story, to know what ultimately happened...and why I haven't returned with updates.

I wish you all the very best of luck and health and as much time with your pooches as possible.

So sorry for your loss.  Crying  We know you loved her very much and did all you could for her.

Your decision was not an easy one, but you did what was best in the situation you were dealt.

Best of luck to you and may you come across another pooch to share your life with.

Chuy, showing everyone that Tripawds do everything 3 times better than regular dogs!

We are so sorry to hear this, but really do appreciate you sharing your experiences. Please try to find some peace knowing that by doing so, you are bound to help someone else down the road who may face the same difficult decisions. Bless you for doing all you did for your pup.

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened.  May you find peace with the fact that your spirit-baby is whole and you did absolutely everything you could to make her remaining time with you the best it could be.

I can't imagine how much pain you've dealt with in such a short period of time.  My heart is with you in your time of grief.
