Thought this might be a good place to introduce our tripawd Skeeter, aka Mister Puppy. We adopted him from a rescue just after Christmas, his owner had gone into a home and no one in the family wanted him. A friend helped find a rescue to take him and it wasn't easy I guess.
He's landed in a good spot, he has been a tripawd a long time, so he has bone growth changes in his remaining front paw. Our vet is doing some ROM exercises and he is on Cartrophen. In addition, he has been referred to an orthopedic vet to discuss a brace - something I haven't heard a lot about and am very curious and hopeful.
Skeeter is ADORABLE!!! Can't wait to see more photos!!
It saddens me that his owner who clearly loved him through the amputation, recovery, etc., not only jad to give himmup, but no ine in the famiky woukd give him a home.
AND....it makes my heart soar with happiness to know henhas found a loving forever home with you! So great of you to be checkingnout so many options for him.
There is a wealth of info. on nere about how to care for a tripawd and protect his remaining joints, etc.
Jerry will give you links, etc.
Would be very interesting to hear what the rehab and orthopedic vets say. I think Ortho Pets make braces, etc.
Thanks for taking in this very special soul! So glad he found you! Nothing like spoiling and loving these courageous and resilient tripawds! Your bond will be deeper than you could ever imagine!
Hugs tonall!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Ok, Skeeter is ADORABLE! You gotta love a pup just chillin on his back with his 3 paws up. I will never understand people who don't treat dogs like family. Well, Skeeter won the lottery with you! Glad you are taking care of his leg and glad you found us. Skeeter and you are welcome here forever.

Oh Skeeter, you are so cute! You are a black & white version of my Chandler.hey we could put you both on and have people decide who is black and white and who is gold and while, like the dress. LOL Seriously, so glad you got him. I am a bit sad for his old owner. How sad to have to go into a home and know your beloved pet is going to a shelter and have no control over it. This scares me a lot. I am a pretty fair piece from that, I hope, but I have put a provision in my will for a monetary incentive if someone in my family takes my pets when I die. Guess I should amend it for if I am unable to care for them. Wonder if there is a way you could let that dear older gentleman or lady know that he has found a loving, forever home. How old is he? Just too cute!
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Ohhh my gosh what a sweetie! I can't imagine anyone in the family not wanting him, how tragic. I really like Lori's idea of finding out if you can contact the owner, that would really make his/her spirits light up.
We actually have a OrthoPets interviews where braces for Tripawds are discussed, click on the link to get to the interview.
Sounds like he's getting some really good PT. Be sure to check out our book, Three Legs and a Spare , to find out how you can keep him strong and healthy for years to come. You might also want to consider enrolling in our upcoming Tripawds Fitness and Conditioning online study course with Dr. Debbie Gross. It's gonna be pawesome!

We don't know the family members circumstances and why they couldn't take Skeeter. There are many reasons why people can't take dogs (too many pets already, no yard, work long hours or out of town, don't like dogs, allergies...) Personally I'm not in a position to have a dog although I do love them. Just moving a family member into a retirement home is stressful and exhausting, it may have been overwhelming to find a new home for Skeeter.
I agree that Skeeter is where he needs to be - in a home with Emily where he will be well loved and cared for. I'm sure the former guardian and family members will be thrilled that Skeeter has found such a great home. What a lovely dog!

How fabulous he found you!! Thankyou for taking this gorgeous baby. I dont see any excuse myself for a dog needing a new home as a pet is a life committment. Would love to see more pics.
