Montana who had her leg amputated on Mar 3, we have noticed that her bruising on her incision sight has gotten worse is this normal ?

She also seems alittle more lethargic and more reluctant eat last nite and today is this to be expected also?

Bruising can be normal post-op since so many muscles have to be cut and some blood can leak under the skin.  This is usually resolved within 2 weeks of the surgery.  Some dogs have chemo administered soon after the surgery and this can contribute to lethargy and anorexia.

What type of cancer does your dog have?  If it hemangiosarcoma I would contact your vet!

Willy had lots and lots of bruising at the site (front R leg of a 100 pound German Shepherd), and he was pretty lethargic for the first two weeks. His appetite was always great, but that is just Willy. Had this surgery happened to his sister Emma, who was a much pickier eater, I'm sure that she would have had no time for food. We were told that the thing to worry about was oozing at the site, but we need not worry about the bruising. Willy even fell on his incision (as we tried to help him out of the car), probably contributing to the bruising, but he was just fine. He is now almost 6 weeks post-op and you can barely see the incision because the hair is growing back in. And while he hasn't regained much of his stamina, he still has some really great times during the day and he is definitely back to being our loving, happy boy.

We just let Willy sleep lots, right after surgery, focussing on the few times when he was alert during the day--those times usually had something to do with his ball. Does Montana have something that she especially likes? She is such a pretty girl--she reminds me of our dear Emma. We lost her to DM last spring. Good luck to you!

Willy--diagnosed with osteosarcoma January 5, 2009 (amputation January 27, 2009) left us just after his 11th birthday on December 2, 2009 to join all the other brave tripawds. We'll always love you!
