One person who questioned our decision to amputate vs 'the alternative' heard this from me:

"He's happy, he's eating, he's playing, he's wagging his tail, he has a smile on his face. The only thing wrong with him is that he had a tumor on his leg. So the leg had to go and we got to keep the rest of him."

I think I would just tell them as they were passing out brains they must have thought they said trains and watched 'em go by, idiots

My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010

Ok - here's a story to make you all smile.  We were at Petco with Trapper yesterday and two ladies wanted to pet him, so they did and went on their way.  Five minutes later we ran into them in a different isle.

1st Lady: Oh my God!  I didn't even notice that dog only has 3 legs!!

2nd Lady:  Oh my God!  Neither did I!!

ME:  Oh my God!  Neither did I!!!

(laughter all around)

Isn't that the best?  We have people all the time not notice that Ajax has 3 legs.  I get all puffed up and proud of him!

laughing The random header images change every time the page loads! So it's hard to tell what banner you're referring to. But the even funnier thing is... when we visited this page to reply, guess what banner was showing?

No, it's not a cat. Just some rocks on Sand Beach during our visit with Jerry Bar Harbor. It does kinda look like a rather waterlogged kitty though. big-blink

Most people that have said something to me have been supportive, but my mom is the one who immediately rattled on about how SHE would never spend that money on a dog and when SHE has been in my position( she has never truly been in my position because she has never had a close bond with her animals) she just put them to sleep. My reply was just simply, " we'll I'm not you".. I wasnt shocked shed say that but I was expecting a lot more insensitivity than I have gotten from others. I hate that some of you have heard a lot more negativity because just the comments from my mom ripped my stomach and heart out. Grrrr..

OH Happy...don't feel TOO bad. Sometimes the people closest to us are soooo frustrated because they can't fix what is wrong.

So they get all uppity and snarky and and say dumb things.

NO one can know what it is like to love a tripawd, cept if you actually have one. 🙂
