After everything we went through with Leland and the cost of it all I decided it would be a good idea to have pet insurance for Lucian. I'm with Petplan and every month they email me a news letter. According to their news letter May is Pet Cancer Awareness Month and they have a write up with tips and links for pet parents starting on this journey.
Here's an excerpt and the link....
May is Pet Cancer Awareness Month, and as much as we hate to think about furry loved ones being diagnosed with the disease, the truth is that as pets age their risk of facing the “Big C” increases. The good news? Cancer doesn’t have to spell disaster – in fact, veterinary oncology can do practically everything that human medicine does to help people. In this month’s Health Tip, we’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about cancer and tell you about promising treatments on the horizon. And if you do have a four-legged friend fighting the disease, our PB & Egg recipe can help soothe stomachs while powering paws with protein for the fight.

Hope some folks may find this helpful.

May is Pet Cancer Awareness Month...
Thanks for sharing this reminder!
Pet Cancer Awareness Month is the reason for East Coast Tri-Pawty 2015, and why That Pet Place is honoring the Tripawds Founation all month.

Thanks Sahana!
Considering the subject, it was a relatively upbeat article. I liked the " link" that talked about complimentary therapies along with chemo....especially mushroom therapies.
Aplreciate the post Sahana!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Thank you Sahana.... I have signed up again (against my better judgement) to raise $$$ via a 3 hour spin-a-thon for cancer in a month or so and again I'll be doing it on honor of Shelby because any advances made in human cancer definitely helps pooches!!!
I have hope that we will continue to make advances like we have in treatments ... years ago, treating a dog w/cancer wouldn't have happened and I know treating Shelbs gave me an extra 8 months ... which was a lifetime to her!
Hugs and love!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
