Anybody know what is going on? Went to vet today and they are out. Said it keeps being back ordered. Told me to try Dr. Fosters. They are out, same with the other 3 places I checked. Is this everywhere, or just in my neck of the woods? I have 2 weeks to find some. I don't want to have to do a loading dose again. My fear is this is a long term shortage. It helps Chandler SO much. If I find the problem is only in my area, I could have my vet call to get some shipped in. I imagine they have already tried that though. 😔 Poor boy! Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks so much, Lori, Ty and gang

Lori,

I don't know that for sure have you tried like Diamond Back drugs or Road Runner they are compounding pharmacies.  I don't know that they could compound that but they may have that drug in stock?

Whenever I have had a problem getting certain drugs, we check with WestVet in Boise. Your vet would probably need to call them to see if they have it and if they will ship.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

I think the company that manufactures it is having trouble again... this happened several years ago when I was using it for quad pug Tani.  At that time the manufacturing plant had to shut down for awhile and the supply ran out. I was lucky that I had enough on hand to make it though.

I searched on Luitpold- the company that makes adequan and found this note.  It's not very specific but it sounds like they are having manufacturing issues.

I hope they resolve the problem soon.

I use med vet international for work and they are showing it on their site and it is not listed as out of stock so you may try contacting them to see if they have it on hand.  That said recently they have been having some license issues and can't ship to GA so I'm not sure if they could ship to you or your vet in PA.  Their prices can also sometimes be unreasonable.  We also use Henry Schien Animal Health but your vet would have to check there since to view stock and pricing you have to log in.  Their prices are fantastic.

They are out also! I was so excited, I put in an order yesterday at California Pet Pharmacy. They were not listing it as out of stock. Then when I called about prescription auth. She told me they are back ordered. What is worse, they still charge my card and then just ship as supplies trickle in. Ugg! I guess I will keep the order in. That way if they get some before my vet does, they can send it. Does anyone know how long you can go without redoing the loading dose. I think I have about 1/2 dose left. Hopefully, that can help some. Looks like the whole problem is with the manufacturer. Ok, venting over now. Lori, Ty and gang

Last year there was a service dog organization whose vet had a limited supply of lactated ringers solution and there was a parvo outbreak. Supporters of the organization bought it from Canada. I checked http://www.cana.....ompany.com where you could buy Adequan but you might want to phone them at 1-866-618-5961 first to ensure they have it in stock.

I wasn't aware of a shortage but the last time this happened we used compounded pentosan polysulfate.  I think we ordered the injections from RoadRunner or Diamondback.  It worked pretty well and is actually cheaper than Adequan, although my preference is to use Adequan if available.

Thank you all! I actually located some. I called my vet to get him to send a script over and now they say they will have some by the end of the week. Guess who is going to be in there tomorrow. Either I leave with my Adaquan or with a script to take to the other vet. I sort of feel like I am searching for some illegal, underground drug. This is crazy. I am about to give up and just get him some maraguana. I think it would be easier. I can see him now with the munchies. LOL 😋

Thanks for the update.

I just heard another story about drug shortages in the U.S. Unfortunately it's not all uncommon these days. Ugh.

Maraguana . . . .you're funny!

I may need the Maraguana after this. LOL actually at vet right now. Chandler was limping really bad last night. He is getting X-rays right now. Deja vu is kicking in. Limping is how Ty started out. He had this once before. Of course now we are at get, he is a crazy man. I think it may be time to break down and do the NSAIDS. I cannot let my fears cause my precious pup pain. I pump 30 mg of the stuff in my body every day. Why should I not give him relief? So confused. Does anybody have advice if I continue Adaequan with NSAIDS? I am thinking it will still help prevent further joint damage. On a good note, we got to try out his new Pet Loader. This thing is awesome. A bit heavy, but he took right to it. Will report back later on X-ray results. Just nervous and needed to post. Lori ,Ty and gang

I'm glad you vented Lori, everyone needs to.

You're right, you have to get past your own fears and remember, that was then, this is now. Chan is not Ty, but you know that. Let us know how the x-rays go.

I don't know about giving Adequan with NSAIDs. I belive Adequan is to replace NSAIDs. Ask your vet and let us know what they say OK?
