Thanks Karen. That's good info.
Baxter is scheduled for a cleaning/extraction next week. At his vet's recommendation, I ordered full mouth x-rays too, just to make sure there's nothing going on with any of his other teeth. I'm sure they're fine, but since he'll already be out, might as well check them.

Alrighty, let us k ow jow it goes. We're all sending pawsitive energy to that cute boy!
And Baxter, the good news is you get soft food (I guess?) For a couple of days, right? And the softest food in the world that serves as a cold pack.....ICE CREAM!!!!!! Lots of ice cream!!!😁😁😁
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Good luck guys! I am glad you are taking him in to have that tooth taken care of. When they break like that sometimes the roots and sensitive areas are exposed and it can hurt.
Fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly!

We're home. Baxter is definitely not feeling too hot right now. I'm hoping it's just the anesthesia. His vet said he should be back to normal tomorrow.
All his teeth, save for the broken one, looked good. And the vet said he was surprised the broken one hadn't abscessed yet. So it's a good thing thing we got it taken out.
We're going to take it easy and rest tonight. Hopefully Baxter is feeling better in the morning.
This is the pic they sent after he woke up:

Ohhhhh Baxter, you are not a happy camper right now. I'm so sorry sweet boy. You will feel better tomorrow...especially after you have ice cream!!🍨🍧🍨
Good decision to get this taken care of!
Looking forward ro a picture of an alert happy (or at least happier) Baxter tomorrow. On any pain meds?
Hugs

Just wanted to add when Merry Myrtle had eye surgery with "relatively light sedation fot a relatively short time), she was quite messed up all night into the morning. She would "stand" in a semi squat pocture, whine and stare......well, being blind, not really "staring", but you get my point.😉

He has a five-day supply of Deramaxx for pain/inflammation. But they must have given him one at the office, because they told me to start it tomorrow. I do have some leftover Gabapentin (from when he hurt his back), if it gets really bad. But I'm hoping to avoid that.
He's fussy and wobbly right now. I gave him some lunch meat and he followed me back to the fridge for more. So I think he's going to be OK.

Yay Baxter and papa! I'm glad he's eating, that will help get his system going and help get rid of the grogginess. It never ceases to amaze me how anesthesia can really amp up their emotions. Buh bye bad tooth, you got it before it made him sick 💖
Way to go, you're such an awesome papa David, hugs to both of you!!!

Awww buddy, feel better! At least you’ll get some spoiling out of the deal.
Hope you feel good tomorrow!

He's not quite back to being himself yet, but he is feeling better today.
Although not with his usual gusto, he did chase after the squirrel that dared run along the fence in the backyard this morning. Another day or so and he should be back to normal.
And I'm feeling better about the decision now. Better to get that bad tooth out of there before it became a problem.

When I picked up Elly from her last dental surgery they handed her to me (this was 3 hours after she woke up) and she was able to wag her tail in a circle (she never does that) but she seemed almost paralyzed otherwise she was so drunk! It was well into the next day before she seemed back close to normal. She was tired for a few days too, but that was probably more due to her anxiety issues.
I'm glad you got that tooth out! And you know now that the rest of his mouth is in good shape. Does he have sutures? The hardest part of Elly's recovery was that she couldn't play with her toys or have bully sticks. But she lost several teeth last time. With her first two dental procedures she was back to whatever she wanted in a few days.

No sutures. The vet said that spot will have to heal naturally. We go back in a couple of weeks to make sure it's healed right.
I came out of the shower this morning to find Baxter doing one of his zooms around the house. I think it's safe to say he's feeling good again.
