We have nothing but love for the folks at our main vet clinic: Avondale Animal Hospital. You can read the full saga of our cat Fluffy's tripawd journey here, but the short version is that Dr. Atchinson at AAH was very supportive and made sure we had all of the information needed to make an informed decision. I cannot recommend him enough. He did all of the pre-surgery diagnostics to determine if Fluffy would be a good candidate for amputation, then referred us to his colleague for the actual surgery: Dr. Murphy at Vestavia Animal Clinic.

VAC has a great online appointment booking system, and we were able to schedule an appointment the very next day! After reviewing Fluffy's records and doing a physical, Dr. Murphy was confident Fluffy would benefit from amputation and that his chances of dying in surgery (my main concern with him being 18) was only 20%. (This shocked me as our first two vets made it seem much higher!) Dr. Muphy has performed countless amputations, and so has another colleague at VAC who ran a feral cat clinic for some years. They really know their amputations over at VAC!

After the surgery, Dr. Murphy himself called me to tell me, "Well, you officially have a tripawd!" and told me well Fluffy's surgery went. He called again later that day to let us know Fluffy was recovering "gently" and purring for anyone who would listen. He called again the next morning to let us know we could come get Fluffy after his last shot and told us Fluffy was already moving in and out of his cage well! When we went to get Fluffy, Dr. Murphy met us at the front desk (where everyone cheered, "Yay! Fluffy gets to go home" and said how sweet of a boy he was) and walked me through what to watch during post-op, meds, and next steps.

10/10 recommend Dr. Murphy and the team at Vestavia Animal Clinic for feline amputations! They made such a scary process feel more hopeful and doable.
