Our dog Emma just had her leg amputated today due to a car accident. We are in need of a size small harness to help her get around with our family. Husband is laid off, I'm a preschool teacher so not a lot of money. I do have some gift cards if that would interest anyone in a trade.
Lots of good thoughts for Emma as she recovers. The first two weeks aren't a picnic, but it gets better 😉
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Good luck with Emma. How long is she staying at the hospital? I am sorry for her accident but I am so glad that you found this site. I may be repeating things you have already read but be prepared for the first two weeks. So dogs fly through the recovery but many others have a harder time. Most of us see that after the first couple of weeks that our dogs can do whatever they could do before the amputation. Having three legs does mean extra strain on the other legs though so I would suggest that you start a good joint supplement like glucosamine chrondrotin. Also, since a dog carries so much weight in her head raising the food bowl is helpful for maintaining balance. I'm glad you are thinking ahead on a harness. I don't think anyone has one listed on the Angel Exchange right now but I could be wrong. Until you get one you can also use a rolled up towel or a canvas shopping bag. Just cut it down the sides and you can use the handles still. What leg did Emma have amputated.
Try not to cry in front of Emma. Emma will be watching you to see how she should react. Remember, dogs don't have the same emotional stigma about amputation that we do.
You and Emma will be in my prayers.

Welcome and good luck getting a harness!
