My dog Blaze is 15 1/2 years old. He lost his right back leg almost three years ago after being kicked by a horse, which broke his femur. He was getting around fine, but now arthritis seems to be taking its toll on his "good" back leg. He's fine except in cold weather, especially damp and cold, like his owner! However, I can't afford a new wheel chair (single mom with two kids in college and university!), and I'm afraid to get a used one from "random" people. Does anyone have a suggestion? I work nine-hour days and can't leave him outside in the winter, yet I also grade papers at home and prefer not to eep cleaning up messes each day! At the same time, I definitely prefer NOT putting him to sleep. I have another smaller dog, too. Oh, Blaze is a redbone, bloodhound mix, the last of a line of dogs started years ago by me. He and his halfsister helped me to raise my kids. Unfortunately, Angel is a true angel now. Thank you for your suggestions!

She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
K-9 Carts have rentals and I think most cart makers have a used collection that you can give your dogs measurements and they will call you when they have a match.

Wow, Blaze is one special pup. What an amazing dog!
My biggest suggestion is to read this post, "Tripawd Tips for Using Wheelchairs" by Dr. Waldman from California Animal Rehabilitation. Please read it before you purchase one OK?
Good luck, and keep us posted.
