Hi Max's Mom,
Yoda's Mom here We're in Madison and going to the UW Vet school for treatment, of course. Yoda is only 10 days past his amputation, but as soon as he's ready, we'd love to meet some other tripawds!
I know there are others around! I met one tripawd mom in the waiting room before Yoda's first appointment and my mother told me she flagged down another guy walking his tripawd german shepherd to get the whole scoop about how he was doing on three legs.
Yoda&Mom united: 9/5/06 …….… Yoda&Leg separated: 6/5/09……… Yoda&Leg reunited: 10/14/09 ……… ……………….………….………….……. Yoda&Mom NEVER separated! …………………….….……....….…… Though Spirit Yoda currently free-lances as a rabbit hunting instructor for tripawds nationwide
Hi!
Harley is a 9 yr old Rottweiler celebrating his 6 week Ampuversary today! I have seen other Tripawds around, as well, Yoda/Gerry's Mom. I almost flagged someone down this summer when I saw one out for a walk (which, if I remember correctly, looked similar to Yoda?!), as we assumed amputation may become a likelihood when Harley's limp wouldn't go away.
Amputation on 11/10/09, due to Histiocytic Sarcoma in left elbow. Angel Harley earned his wings on 06/24/10.
Thanks for joining Harley! Welcome to the Tripawds community, and good luck getting together with other three legged friends near you.

Awesome!!!! Do you remember where you might have seen Yoda and I?
A tripawd pawty in Madison would be soooo pawesome (I should say). You know there was one day when I took Yoda to the park and a woman told me he was the third three legged dog she had seen that day! (The other two were from the same pack, but still). And there were other sightings of other tripawds by family and friends in town.
Gerry just needs friends period so a pawty of any number, with any number of legs, would be great for him. He is such a social butterfly.
Any other Madison-area folks out there?
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

I had a friend tell me the other day she saw a tripawd downtown. So, yes, definitely seems there are some around!
I saw the tripawd just off University on Craig, I believe it was, sometime this past Summer ... I'm pretty sure it was a brown, front amp tripawd. I was so tempted to pull over and inquire about the dog, but I didn't want them thinking I was crazy. Plus, at this time I was completely against our dog having an amputation, but seeing this tripawd hopping down the sidewalk helped me think it would be okay if we had to do it.

I'm glad. That was DEFINITELY Yoda and I. I don't know if I'd be in the majority or not, but I suspect that any three-legged dog walker would understand if a stranger flagged them down to talk because they were concenred about their dog. I wanted to myself (I didn't see any, but my mom had and I wished I had been there) and also just to ask them if our tripawds could maybe play together 🙂 Let them learn some mobility tips from each other. Never had an opportunity though. But hey, we both found tripawds.com, and instead of one person off the street we've got tons more people here to turn to for support.
Stay in touch, but FYI Gerry's having a rough time, so I don't know if I'll be keeping up with the boards very well for a while. It's also possible I'll be on all the more. It all depends on whether I can come up with anything I can do for him or if we just have to wait it out.

Just sending out another post to let anyone who might come looking know that Gerry is still excited about having Tripawd pawties in Madison and we've been hearing the same from Hopalong Harley too So be sure to reply and/or subscribe to this post and/or reply to Gerry's blawg, where he asks when others might like to meet up: http://gerry.tr...../#comments
I would really love to make one happen on Memorial Day weekend. My birthday is 5/28, and last year on 5/27 Yoda got his osteosarcoma diagnosis, so I'm gonna need me a pawty to look forward too!

I might get called out on this by Admin or the the moderators for posting in the wrong forum, but… maybe they won't notice! Shhhhhh…
I don't want any Madison-area members or visitors to miss the news I posted in the Rescue forum that there is a female, chocolate lab mix tripawd looking for a home. The details can be found at my other forum post: http://tripawds.....adison-wi/

We'll let it slide since this is for a good cause. 😉 Luna needs a good home, and you're just trying to help.

Close one!
I was going to post just now actually that I plan to have a tripawd pawty on Sunday, May 30th. Then it dawned on me that that is my brother's birthday. But we won't necessarily celebrate on the day of anyway, so I'll check with him before I say it's 100%. It's probably 75% for sure at this point.
And if anyone wants to give me input on a good date for them, or good days of the week/times in general, post here or PM me! There won't be just one tripawd pawty, if I can help it.

Pawesome! I wouldn't be surprised if Gerry's four-legged roommate Biggie wants to come too. All legs are welcome.
I'd love to try for a big one either Sunday, May 30th or Saturday, June 5th (or Sunday, June 6th). June 5th would be Spirit Yoda's 1 year ampuversary. And he was diagnosed on May 27th, soo that period of time would be a great time to distract myself with a pawty!
But it seems so far away. However, hopefully we'll have a Chicago-area pawty in early May too. Did you see those posts as well, if you'd want to make the drive? ...
Alright folks, seriously - help me decide between May 30th or June 5th or June 6th!
And anyone familiar with Madison's dog parks (maybe just me and Harley) any thoughts on which park would be best? I was actually thinking one of the smaller ones might be best for actually getting to meet each other. The bigger ones are beautiful, but it is not uncommon for even well-behaved dogs to disappear for significant periods of time at those places....hmmmm...

We almost lost Harley on Memorial Day last year (Rimadyl reaction) … so we're up for a Pawty this year!! As of now, we have no plans I know of, so we're in on whatever day works (the 30th or whenever). Yay! If you need help with anything, let me know.

I'm of no help ... any day, as of now, works for us.
I am not familiar with the dog parks. I'm a horrible Mommy ... we've never been.
