So we've been a little absent the last few weeks. A little over two weeks ago, Zep developed some swelling on the left side of his face, and eye. I thought he had been bit by a bee or something in the yard while lounging, eating grass. Around the same time his sister from another mother, Katie developed a mild cough. We took them both to the vet, and Zep got benadryl and Kate got a mild antibiotic. The next morning, Zep looked the same and Katie was a little lethargic. We debated on taking her to the vet, but decided to wait until lunch. When we came home, she was in respiratory distress. We brought her (at 90 mph) to the vet, and I really thought she was going to pass in the car. Despite their valient efforts, her lungs were full of fluid, and we lost her. When we got home, Zep's face looked worse, and we had to take him to the emergency vet, who suspected an abcessed tooth. They put him on an antibiotic, and we are currently waiting for the right time between chemo treatments to do a tooth extraction... Face still swollen, but abit better. Our hearts had been absoultely crushed and the worry about Zeps diagnosis is at an all time high. All these last few months we've been so worried about zep, we never thought we would loose our precious perfect Katie before him...
Oh my gosh you guys, I am so so very sorry for your loss. So much to handle at one time. Please know that you are in my thoughts and I hope everything works out for Zepplin's procedure. Please keep us updated.
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Oh I"m so sorry! I can't even imagine...the depth of your grief right now sounds so difficult, I hope that things get better, and Zep gets his sparkle back soon.
Our hearts go out to you, we are so very sorry. Please let us know if we can do anything to help. Even if it's just to come here and vent, that's what we're here for.
I can't wait to watch the videos (I'm at work right now but will check in later).
Hugs coming your way.

I am so very sorry to hear of Katie's unexpected passing; was she Zep's older or younger sister? You are in my thoughts; she was certainly a beautiful girl.
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to read this. I can't imagine how unexpected and hard this must be for you guys.
Sending condolences and pawsitive thoughts for Zep.
Hang in there,
Jackie, angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Zep was an only dog for 1.5 years. Katie was a rescue, and we think they were about the same age. She was also a cancer survivor (thymoma) and had extensive chest surgery last spring, we don't think it was related.
Katie looked like a really sweet girl, I am so very sorry.
Zep, I know times are ruff right now and you probably miss your sissy so much, but I just want to say that you're looking great. I really enjoyed seeing you splash around in the water, and it's great to see the brace is working for you.
Be strong Zep, your pack needs you now. {{{{hugs}}}}

Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
Oh, I am so sad for you. That just doesn't seem fair. My thoughts will be with you as you deal with your loss and worry about Zep.

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
Oh No! I am so sorry to hear about Katie. So unexpected, my heart aches for you guys. What in the world.....we have a neighbor who's black lab had the exact same thing happen to him. One day fine....next day slight cough....next day lungs filled. So hard to understand why. We grieve with you.
Zep needs to heal up all the way now. Get that tooth fixed and the chemo started and get on with healing. Again, we are so sorry about your Katie, she was a pretty girl.
All our Best

Jack Russell born in 2001. Mast cell cancer found Dec 2009 and right rear amputation. Five rounds of chemo done before all treatment stopped. Living life to the fullest!! Read my story at http://rizzo.tripawds.com
Wow, what a horrible few days. I'm so sorry to hear about Katie. It's so difficult (I find, at least) when things happen so suddenly. One day things are chugging along, and then suddenly they aren't. I know it's like a punch in the gut when your focus has been so much on Zep and then suddenly you get hit from the other side and lose Katie. None of what is happening to everyone around here is fair. I hope that Zep's extraction goes well and that he is feeling better again soon.
