Calvert is doing really well. He is 2 weeks out from his front leg amputation. We had an appointment this morning to remove staples. All the staples were able to be removed :). He still has drainage where he scratched some staples out last Monday, but it's slowed down ALOT. The incision looks great. I couldn't be more delighted with his recovery.

Until the drainage stops and the incision heals even more, I'm keeping a t-shirt on him and a sock on his back paw on the side of the amputation. Don't want any set backs this far in the game!! I was really hoping this darn drainage would stop. This is day 8 of the drainage. what-ever. Nobody likes drainage. Not me anyway. Better out than in though? At least the drainage isn't pinkish yellow anymore! mostly clear, slightly tinted drainage.

His activity level is through the roof. About a week ago, I posted that he'd play with his tennis ball again, well, he's there. I would say he's fully functioning at this point. We played fetch last night for a little bit, then he proceeded to destroy the tennis ball. :) Until a few days ago, he wasn't interested in his toys at all. The most relaxing thing that has happened throughout his recovery was the day he picked up his tennis ball for the first time, and started playing with my other dogs and the other dogs actually played back (They avoided him for a few days when he instigated playing, LOL). I finally was able to breathe.

Thank you to everyone who has offered their advice, and have been there for me and Calvert when I was pretty much loosing my mind. This is a WONDERFUL community for new parents of tripawds, and I hope that people struggling with these issues stumble across this online community when in search of answers, they will find so much more than answers. :)

Love,

Angie and Calvert

Angie, we knew you and Calvert could do it. This is big, big progress and getting better every day. Your close but not smothering monitoring, while still letting him be a dog and play a little is the best medicine. It shows. Congrats!

That is great news to hear! I'm going to be dealing with drainage with my girl Rox for a while too I assume. That is so great to hear he is active, I'm really not sure how all of this is going to go, so hearing encouraging updates is really nice. I can totally related with the stress, as I am sure most people here can. I am so happy for you though, that his progress is so positive. Keep getting better Calvert!!

That's terrific news!!!  I'm so happy for you and Calvert that he's getting back to his "doggy ways" and destroying tennis balls.  It shows that he's feeling much better and is not feeling in pain.

Keep up the good work Calvert and keep getting stronger so you can destroy more of those darned tennis balls!! clapclapclapclap

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. CALVERT. AND. MOM. TOO! :-) :-) :-)

Yeah, this journey can indeed drive you whacko! Getting through the recovery period with all the little "extra" challeneges.that can pop up can make anyone craaaaaazy! But you stayed the course snd are starting to see the payoff!! You and Calvert are a great team!

Glad.the pack is getting back to normal. They all know when things aren't "right" and they need time to adjust too.

Now Calvert, don't go wild hog on those tennis balls quite yet...you still need to "play gently" for just a bit longer!

YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! A scoop of ice cream to celebrate sutures out day!

Thanks guys!!! I'll get some pics up for you all. 🙂

He still will not jump up onto the bed... HMM. He jumps up into the house just fine through our back door which has no steps... We'll see if he will.
