Ursa made it through surgery like a champ. Her front left leg was amputated. The surgery was long. The tumor was big. She bled a lot. We'll just have to wait for what the pathologist says. But for now we are focused on getting her home and recovered from her amputation. I have lots of photos and thoughts over on my personal blog. If you have a second, I would love for you to hop on over and let me know if you have any words of wisdom as we prepare to bring her home this afternoon. They said that she's struggling on slippery floors, but has been eating and evacuating, so that is good news.
Thank you all for you positive energy and love. It made yesterday better, despite all the nerves and fear.

Your love for her has guided you well this far so trust your heart. I'll keep her in my prayers.
Kathy & Harley
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/
Glad to hear the surgery went well! She's such a beauty!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Ursa looks so beautiful and sweet in that photo that I just want to bury my face in her fur and hug her! I am so glad she is out of surgery. the fact that she is having trouble with slippery floors is good, in that she is up and moving. After Sammy recovered from the surgery, he had no trouble with our wood floor until he had a problem with the other leg. But, many others require non-skid rugs to navigate slippery floors. It just depends on Ursa.
I hope the next couple of weeks go smoothly for you, but remember that many of us refer to it as "two weeks of hell." It is a time of worry and adjustment. But once that time passes, you will be amazed!
Best wishes,
Beth, Spirit Smilin' Sammy and MB Wiggly Wrigley
Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
Yea! It's always good to get them home.
Hopefully Ursa is one of the lucky pups that sail though recovery, but most of us experienced some ups and downs. Don't get discouraged if Ursa has some down time- stay positive and she will come around. All of our pups healed on their own schedules.

Oh my dog! That's the most gorgeous after surgery photo on earth!!!
I'm so glad Ursa is out of surgery. Long surgeries can scare the pawrent waiting! I hope you didn't fret too much.
Don't be surprised if she perks up when she gets home (adrenaline rush) and you think that is normal but then she zonks out and you get scared. It's normal for them to get down because of the meds and just general recovery.
We had runners and throws on all our tile floors. We got matching ones at Walmart so it didn't look too bad. I'd even take something for Comet with me to the vet since she couldn't stand very well on the vet's floors.
Keep us updated on Ursa's progress. And remember, we are here if you need anything.
Heeling wishes galore to Ursa!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
I am so glad to hear that Ursa's come through the surgery well. And wow, she looks absolutely gorgeous in those photos. I don't think us humans could possibly look so beautiful after such major surgery!
Magnum always struggled with slippery floors with 3 legs even after she had fully recovered. If we couldn't avoid a slippery floor I'd usually give her some extra support while we traversed it.
Best wishes
Karen
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
So happy all went well-Ursa is so beautiful! We also have runners and rugs all over-I like that idea of taking something to the drs visits, as we had problems standing for so long during the last visit (greyhounds don't usually sit)
Wishing Ursa an easy recovery!
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
Welcome home! Wishing you a speedy and uneventful recovery.
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

Pawesome news! It's always a relief to get that part over with.
Until she comes home, use this time to Tripawd-proof your house and her favorite spots, and be sure to get lots of rest. The next couple of weeks aren't always hard but they can be sleepless. You may also want to write down all of your questions so you have them ready when you pick her up at the vet's office.
