Hi Kelly,
My situation is very similar to Luigi. I have been on raw diet since I was 2 (I am 12.5 now).
After amputation of the right front, none of the food would interest me for weeks and I was losing weight. My mom was so worried, she tried to give me food which I had never touched for ages, e.g. kibbles, canned food, cooked meat, ...etc. She tried very hard to be creative, but I just didn't feel like eating.
I had the pain patch on the day before surgery, and had it removed three days post-op. Since surgery, I had been on Metacam, Tramadol, for quite a while. Those things just ruined my appetite.
Hope that Luigi will pick up appetite soon after the meds get flushed out of his body. Be patience.
Love,
Genie
Hello Luigi, like you I also had a fentanyl patch. During that time my pawrents thought I was kind of moppy and did not want to do much including eating. They were a little bit worried about it and my mom, like Genie's tried everything...I am also on the raw food diet but because I did not want to eat she boiled me some chicken breast using chicken broth. she added some cottage cheese and sometimes some yogurt and little by little I started to eat. After a couple of days my patch came off and boy what a difference...I like suddenly woke up! I was more alert my appettite was back and I licked my bowl cleaned. I did stay on Tramadol for a few days longer but now I am off all my drugs, just taking good nice supplements to keep my energy and my immune system good for my chemo treatments. Just need to see what works for you and take it one day at a time. Some days will be good and some will be even better, have patience and don't be hard on yourself. Sending lots of licks and love your way.....

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know that i went through the some of the same things with my Saint, Nori. After her amputation she was on Tramadol, and she was sooooo not herself that i actually thought we made the wrong decision by opting for the amputation. She would just stare into space - no kisses for mommy or daddy - no eye contact - no favorite foods - no nothing. I was a hot mess, worrying about her constantly. Nori would perk up a little bit during the 2 weeks following her surgery, but overall was not even close to the same Nori girl. AND THEN THE WHINING STARTED.
That was the worst part - i thought she was in pain so i called the vet (in hysterics, of course)...the surgery team at the UW-Madison hospital assured me that she was whining because she didn't like the way the drugs were making her feel ("she's probably seeing pink elephants," the vet said). So true.
After we weaned her off the Tramadol, she returned to her usual self. In fact, now (her amputation was on 03/11/08) she feeling better than she has ever felt! Hang in there - things WILL get better!
Hey guys, my friend D'Lo had posted a question here about Doggie Doors, but we moved it to the Getting Around Forum instead.
Please visit and give any suggestions you can think of!
