I posted that Harley had his third chemo treatment and it has effected him greatly. Today I finally got him to eat and so far he has not been sick. So he really hadn't eaten since before Monday , would this make him considerably weaker? He doesn't want to get up . He wants to sit outside but it's just too cold for that . If it was warmer it wouldn't be a problem to let him sit outside as long as he wants. He seems weaker now than he did just after surgery it makes me wonder if there is something else wrong although he had a very good checkup during his chemo. He has had two doses of the nausea medicine now so I do think it helped .
His first two chemos went so well that this is so unexpected it is making me second guess what I should do or not do.
Thoughts anyone?
Hi Harley and family, welcome to the Forums! I'm so glad you posted here.
So it sounds to me like this chemo hit him harder than the rest. That isn't too unusual, it happens to some dogs and most times the symptoms can be managed with anti-nausea medication. I'm glad he has some and it's kicking in. When did you start giving it?
He does need to eat though (and yes, not eating can make him weaker and lethargic). Have you talked to the vet about this? And have you tried any appetite stimulants like these? What have you tried? Let us know that way we can try to come up with some alternative ideas for you.

I know Paula spaced her Nitros sessions to 4 weeks instead of three. Also some here have talked to their oncologists about slightly lowering the doses after negative effects too. Just throwing thinks out there to consider? As far as not eating since Monday think about when a human gets stomach flu for a day or two and can't eat. How weak and shakey we feel. I imagine that's pretty much how Harley is feeling too. I would definitely confer with your vet/oncologist so they are aware of his latest symptoms he had after his last chemo. Glad to hear Harley was able to eat some and keep it down today. Hopefully tomorrow will bring an even better day. Hugs!

So sorry Harley is having this challenge.
Just to be on the safe side, I would get a vet check-up and maybe get some fluids in him to perk him up. The Vet will also check to make sure he doesn't hzve a fever compounding the situation. Since he seems to want to sit ooutside where it's cold, it ay, or may not, indicate a fever.
Yeah, let's get him over this hurdle as soon as possible, and then you can think about resuming chemo or not.
It seems like we've had a lot of dogs (relatively speaking) who are having some pretty rough side effects from chemo recently. Wondering about that.
PLEASE keep us updated. Feel better Harley!
