Howdy all!
I was doing some research and came across this relatively new canine cancer test called, VDI- CanineTK. It evidently measures a marker called thymidine kinase (which becomes elevated in dogs with cancer). Is anyone's veterinary team, using this as a monitoring tool when it comes to following the progression of a dog's cancer and/or response to treatment?
I haven't had a chance to do a lot of in depth research on it, in terms of its sensitivity, specificity, cost, etc...but wanted to mention it to see if anyone on here has had any experience with it.
I'm wondering if this would be helpful to draw during Lily's 4th chemo (we are doing the 6 dose Carboplatin protocol)treatment (which is when she will be restaged to see if there has been any metastasis despite the chemo)....I'm already getting nervous about the restaging and our appointment isn't until 8/21! Just have to remember one day at a time I guess...
Thanks!
Allison and Lily

Hi Allison and Lily,
There has been a lot of talk about this test here and on the web. I plan on writing a blog post about it, so stay tuned. Meanwhile here is some reading for you:
My understanding is that it is more useful as a monitoring tool than it is for detecting cancer from the beginning. Definitely talk to your oncologist to find out if it's right for you guys.
One step at a time for sure!

Hi Allison, check out this article we just wrote about the test. We wanted to learn more, so we interviewed one of our favorite oncologists, Dr. Avenelle Turner.
