Simon is now due for his 3 yr rabies and parvo/distemper vaxes... I know many dont vax an osteo dog,, Does anyone?
( I'm not going to rely on titres,,, recent reading stated that titers only measure antibodies, not cell mediated immunity, which is the real world measure of protection)
In the back or front of my mind,. while Simon is a sweet dog,, I have seen him bite/ attack 2 dogs that he was playing with.. He doesnt get to do that now, but if it did happen.. it would be nice to know he is vaccinated for the other pet// owner etc,,. thoughts??
After Nitro was diagnosed with osteo, I stopped all vaccines except rabies - which we are required by law to have. My vet was totally on board with forgoing all the rest
Paula and Warrior Angel Nitro
P.S. we are not in a high risk area for lymes, he wasn't boarded or groomed (so really didnt need bordatella), and I was comfortable with him not getting the others
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"
"Be good, mama loves you".....run free my beautiful Warrior
My oncologist said no vaccines while Rocky was getting chemo. It was either the vaccine could reduce the effectiveness of the chemo or vice versa. I can’t remember which. Might have been both.
She wrote a letter and my city/state was gracious enough to allow us to postpone his rabies vac until 30 days after he completed chemo. Of course, he never completed his chemo and thus never got his final rabies vac.
David and Rocky (and Baxter now too!)
Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.
He is the toughest, bravest, sweetest and best friend I'll ever know.
