Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all of your posts and positive thoughts! I realize that I haven't been on the site very much. I've been playing catch-up at work and at school from that week that I missed!

For the first two weeks, Tyson was pretty tired. He was laying around and sleeping a lot. He was also acting very strange, especially when we went outside. He would just kind of stand out there, and he wouldn't want to come inside for the longest time!

Exactly two weeks post-amp, he's completely returned to his normal self! He's been figuring out how to walk and balance, and he seems to have gotten the hang of it so well! He got his stitches out this past Monday, and he's been running around! (When he had his stitches in, he chased a raccoon... that was a bit scary!) He's resumed begging at the breakfast table again, and some BIG NEWS came today. My mother called me at 8:30am to tell me that Tyson went up the stairs by himself to wake her up!! He hasn't done that in MONTHS...since before his injury! He managed to get down the stairs very well, too! Poor pup was hungry, though, and my mom was heartbroken that she couldn't give him any food since....

he's getting his first round of chemo today! My parents met with the oncologist for the first time today (I was there over the phone on speaker). He's going to get carboplatin today. I really hope he tolerates it well! She said that in 80% of the cases, dogs have no side effects...but I'm just worried that if he does, my parents are going to be scared immediately. I really don't want them to stop his treatment if they see that he's a bit nauseous or a little more tired...

They will be doing another lung x-ray today in order to make sure that he's definitely all set for chemo. Hopefully there are no surprises there...

So far, everything has been going smoothly. Thanks everyone for the support and thoughts of Tyson!! I will keep you updated on his chemo progression! I'm really looking forward for the weather to get warmer and for the snow to clear (up here in Chicago-suburbs) so that I can take him on walks! He hasn't been since November!

Sending love to all,

Anna and Tyson

Oh Anna and Tyson, what a GREAT UPDATE! WOOF! WOOF! Happy hoppy dance going on over here!clap

OMD! Going up and dlwn stairs, chasing racoons...WONDERFUL!! Yeah, you don't really realize how much pain they're in until you take it away and see how hapy they are!

Even IF...even IF...he has a little nausea and lethargy fro chemo, it's NO biggie at all!! They'll give him some nausea pills to take home and that clears it up if needed! I kow every dog is different, but I actualy felt like Happy Hannah's recovery even kicked up a notch after her first chemo!

Let us kow how it goes, okay?

It's putting a big grin on m face today hearing how wel ne's doing! Now you ow for certain, it's so ething you did FOR Tyson.....not TO him!

Much love and lots of hugs to all STEAK tonight for Tyson!

Great update!!! I am so glad to hear he's doing so well. Ditto what Sally and Happy Hannah said about the chemo. Slight nausea is to be expected. Shelby was good the first 3 days and then boom - not really interested in her food but would suffer through some cookies. So I'll never really know if it was nausea or dramatics with Shelby.

But each dog is different and they do give you anti-nausea pills. And you can call and ask all the questions you want. :-) God knows they ALL know me at my vet now.

Shelby took about 4 - 4 1/2 weeks post amp to really get back to her normal self - she would also stand around, like she couldn't figure out how to get down or something. Also would stand and stare outside. I think it's good to remember that it is major surgery and to cut them some slack (and if you read any of my posts, you will know that this is much easier said than done) but it sounds like Tyson is healing really well and I am really happy to hear all that.

Keep us posted how today goes!! Sending you happy thoughts and love!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Apparently I spoke too soon. Before administering the chemo, they were routinely doing a rectal exam and found a small tumor in his anus that could be cancerous. They did an aspirate and we get the results tomorrow. This is too much. I cannot believe this...it's so unfair. It's bad enough to be dealing with osteosarcoma, but now this?

This is so strange because he's not sick. He's completely himself.
They administered the chemo anyways.
This truly is a nightmare.

Oh please dont' worry Anna. Our Wyatt had a butt lump last year and it was just an infection that was easily treated with antibiotics. Be strong and remember that Tyson is rock solid, this will be fine!!!

I'm glad to hear that things are otherwise really great. You know it's funny how many people note that their new Tripawd will go outside and then just stand there and not want to come in the house. I wonder why? Thoughts anyone?

Jerry, Marshall used to do the same thing. I think it might be medication bc he did it after his biopsy too.

Hmmm, I wonder what is going on with that? Maybe staring at pink elephants?

OK everyone! FALSE ALARM!!! It turned out to be benign!! I'm so relieved..... I was really emotionally exhausted earlier and feeling rather defeated...in case you hadn't noted from my post!
I'm so thankful that our situation hasn't worsened.

Thank you everyone for your support !!

The chemo went well! Let's hope the next few days go well!

Sending lots of love,

Anna and Tyson

And the tripawd community goes...WHEEEEEEW!! YAAAAAY for BUTT LUMPS!!

Nlw step back intoyour "Being More Dog" clothes and celebrate a really incredibly good recovery! Tyson's ready rumble!!

Now, if he does a lot of "butt scooting" that's probably because the ting itches after they did the aspiratin. Ouch!

GREAT JOB TYSN!! Hugs all the way around tnight!

Phew....I'm just catching up on Tyson's story....so glad I knew the ending right away!

Hurrah for benign butt lumps :)

Tyson's recovery reminds me of Tuck's - two weeks post-amp when the stitches came out the light seemed to come out in his eyes again.

Hope chemo is going well - enjoy your big guy and try not to worry too much

Hugs

Yay for B9 Butt Lumps!

Be very thankful that your vet is so proactive, that's terrific.

Thanks everyone!

Tyson seems to be having some side effects from the Carboplatin. He had some diarrhea this morning, and my parents say he seems pretty weak. We gave him some medicine to help his stomach. Really hope it only lasts a day or two!

Did they send you home with some extra medicine for nausea and diarrhea? That's a pretty common side effect. When Shelby got stress-induced colitis (post-amp) her vet recommended a bland diet AND to add some pure pumpkin (the canned pumpkin, not the stuff with sugars, etc but just pumpkin) to her diet and it will firm things up. I am NOT a vet so you might want to ask your vet about that - especially if he turns his nose up at food.

It should wear off in a couple days (the side effects) so fingers crossed! Hang in there!!!
