Hi everyone, We haven't been on much. It's been too hard reading the sad stories on here knowing one day I will have to post my sad story. We found out Levi's Cancer has spread to the lungs on January 4th. I was worried that he would go down hill quickly after that but here we are 6 more weeks have gone by and we are still jogging everyday and I don't see ANY outward signs of cancer. I'm going to wait a few months before doing xrays again. I'm going to play the "ignorance is bliss" game for a while. Levi is on very small doses of Doxycycline and Previcox and we also started him on Artemisinin . Let's hope we can shrink those tumors!
So here we are, just having fun each day but always wondering when that will change...
If anyone has advice or stories about Artemisinin let me know.
Levi was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-7-11
Ampuversary 10-14-11
Lung Mets Discovered 1-4-12. Chemo seemed to not be working so we switched to Artemisinin and other supplements. In May, Levi developed a sinus infection and started having seizures. The cancer had moved to his brain. We let him go 6-26-12.
The ignorance is bliss game is a good one - especially since that is essentially how our pups operate. They don't know they're sick. They don't know what's coming. They just know today is a good day to play and have fun.
Hope you have many many many many more good play days ahead!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

That's the spirit! Forget about that "wondering" bit. At first we worried that the end was near upon first discovering Jerry's lung mets. He sure proved us wrong by loving life on thee legs for another 8 months!
You will find links to more information about Artemisinin in the Nutrition blog .

So very happy to hear Levi is enjoying life; good for him and good for you. I am a big believer in not seeking out trouble-- I must admit that I completely blocked out the fact that Scout had cancer for the nine months he was a tripawd; in fact, I truly believed he was cancer free. Quite a shock when he suddenly went downhill, BUT we had nine fabulous months together and both enjoyed every single moment. It was so nice not to worry about him. Give Levi a big hug for me and keep on having fun.
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Erica,
I am so glad to see this update. I have wondered since your post about the mets how Levi was doing and I am thrilled that the answer is good! We also make every attempt to forget about the cancer and we are successful more than I would have expected. Hoping you have many, many more good weeks!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

That's the perfect attitude! Live for the day. It's what our pups do and look at how happy they are! It's just us stupid humans that fret about what might happen tomorrow. Good news that Levi continues to do well. Here's to many many many more ignorance is bliss days.

Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
Way to go Levi!
Every day is a gift- so just keep on enjoying them!
When Maggie's second cancer was diagnosed I didn't even ask for a prognosis. It is a tough skill to master, not worrying about the future- but Maggie showed me how to do it- just like Levi is showing you!!
I did find some sense of relief as well. There was really no more bad news to come, no more treatment choices. I just enjoyed my girl as long as she enjoyed being here.
Hopefully Levi will be showing you the way for a long time to come.

Yay Levi! Great that he is running everyday and enjoying life 🙂
Lylee is on Artemisinin - we have had her on it since last July, 200mg once a day a la creme cheese about 2 hours after her dinner. We do 3 weeks on and then 1 week off. She seems to be tolerating it fine along with a host of other natural 'goodies' and metronomic chemo.
Keep up with the fun! hugs & wags
