Thanks so much!

If you already bought the product I'd say go ahead and use it. How did you figure out the dose? Oh did you see this?

https://tripawd.....se-studies

There are lots of great veterinary cannabis products out there. My preferred brands are ElleVet and Hippie Hounds. But for the best results, I recommend working with a vet professional who can tailor the product type and dosage to Gertie's needs. Just like all dogs are different so are these products. Knowing Gertie's physiology and conditions are important for choosing an effective product so you're not wasting your money. A vet can do that for you. If you'd like me to connect you to a vet expert (that's my role as a veterinary cannabis guide), send me a PM OK? The service is low-cost or free, aside from the product and possibly lab work you can get at your vet.

Definitely talk to her about tapering down the Gabapentin just to be safe OK?

So Gertie has not been eating much at all. She only drank broth and water yesterday. i gave her an appetite enhancer last night (Entyce) but still wouldn't even eat bacon this morning. she did drink a little broth tho.

I'm pretty concerned but have an appontment tomorrow morning to get an "alternative" plan of action

Also i am sure it didn't help my AC quit last week so I've been staying with my mom until a new one gets put in on Thurs.

Bummer about the ac.  Glad you are able to stay at your mom's in the interim.

Is Gertie used to staying  at your Mom's?  Just wondering if not being at her home may be interrupting with her appetite.

It is good thst she's getting fluids  and staying hydrated.   And bone broth is good for her.  Ask your Vet about Goat's mild too.  It's a good source of nutrients.

Is your appointment  with your regular Vet or the holistic/alternative one?  Did you ever try reintroducing some Gabapentin  back into her regimen?

Also maybe ask about another appetite  stimulant.   Can't  think of the name  of it right now, but many Bets recommend  one that starts with "M".

Sending all sorts of pawsitive energy your way.

thanks so much, my appointment is with the holistic one but i actually found out he's more of a hybrid....he's maybe more of a vet that also does holistic things.

i did not stop the gabapentin until she stopped eating. And I've been trying so hard to get her to eat or at least drink some crushed pills

i gave her a little raw goat milk based on my friend's recommendation on Saturday but no luck since.

I so appreciate all the support. it really helps!

I love that your Vet is a "hybrid".....great way to describe  what he does and his knowledge in "conentional" and "alternative".

And PLEASE know this:  You are doing everything possible for your  Gertie!  You are  leaving no stone unturned!  No dog could have a better advocate💖

Hoping your Vet will have some more suggestions.   Even though  she is drinking, maybe a dose or two of fluids will help to perk her up and give her an appetite.   And ask of any of the Holistic and "western" meds could be interfering  with her appetite. Also maybe he can do some more diagnostics that aren't  invasive (for example blood work) to see at what level her liver might be compromised because of the sarcoma.  Cant remember  is she's on any meds to help with the liver values or not.

Let us know how the Vet visit goes.  ,aybe a drove thru cheeseburger  on the way home will help....both of you!

We're  all sending love to you and Gertie.  AND we woild love to see more pictures!!!  Her name suits her perfectly!

Oh I'm soooo sorry. Going to bet the heat has something to do with it. I hope you get your AC fixed. Ugh.

Did you see our appetite tips? Maybe these will help.

Will be curious to see what your vet thinks is going on and what labs they do, if any. There's got to be a reason they can pinpoint and treat so sweet Gertie gets her mojo back. Keep us posted OK?

we went to the hybrid vet today. he gave Gertie acupuncture and Sanawave which targets a specific part of the body with a lot of heat (NICE therapy). i was a little surprised he didn't want to give Gertie fluid. he thought that giving her some goat milk  would help jump start her appetite. i gave her 6 tablespoons of goat milk with a syringe at home  and she seemed to like it but for whatever reason she wouldn't drink it out of the bowl. i had to go back to work but hoping when i get back she's ready to eat!

he also recommended staying on her current medicine minus carprofen but go back on gabapentin. and also he gave a herb to give her - xue fu zhu yutang and really strongly said to keep trying the turkey tail mushroom which Gertie has not been a huge fan of

Absolutely  speechless!!!! Shocked!!! Stunned!!

I just read your update earlier and was coming back now to say I was glad the appt went well (all things considered).

This is a nasty and cunning and brutal and sneaky disease.  Sometimes the script is already written.  Regardless of all yoir Herculean  efforts, it had already plotted it's course.

I cannot begin to express how very, very sorry I am to read this.  For you to come home to this...cannot even I imagine..

The ONLY small minuscule piece of comfort I can salvage for you is that Gertiie  did this on her own terms and at home.  She already had more love than any dog could ever want.  She didn't  need to hang around in her earth clothes  that were now failing her.  She made sure you knew that you had done everything possible  for her.  AND YOU DID!!!

Gertie' loved you enough ti make sure she transitioned  while you weren't  there.  Again, she did it her way, on her own terms and without  being in some clinic being poked and prodded among stangers .  Clearly , for whatever reason, her body just gave out and let go with no struggle, no fight, just a welcoming  release to be free.

My heart breaks for you right now.  We were all so touched by the bond you and Gertie shared.  The love you jave for her came through  loud and clear.  And, I k ow it's hard to believe now, but the way she  decided  to leave her earth clothes was a gift to you.   I say that because  you will at some point fi d co fort knowing she was home and at peace for a life well lived and well loved.

Surrounding you with Gertie's eternal light, happy smile and wagging tail

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too

PS. Please know we are all here to support you in anyway we can.  When you get a chance, we would love to see more pics of your sweet Gertie  and all about the many things thst made her a one-of-a-kind dog.

Ohhhhhhh! icon_cry It's unimaginable, my heart so much hurts for you. You both fought so hard, and her vet team did everything humanly possible to help her. There's no way anyone could have predicted her sudden passing. It's a mystery, and it hurts like nothing else in this world. We all feel for you right now, and are here to support you any way we can.

I have to agree with Sally, Gertie wanted to wear those wings her own way, on her own timeline. Your sweet, beautiful girl is the brightest star in heaven now. Look up, and she will be there, just like she has been all these years. Your love connects you to one another through the heavens, and it will never, ever fade.

Please join us in Coping with Loss if or when you are up to it, so we can celebrate her life together. Gertie will never be forgotten.

Thanks. i will definitely post about her but right now I'm still processing things. it's hard to not second guess so many decisions.

One cool thing that happened was yesterday i was at my mom's house to feed her cat and there was a Bluejay stuck in her garage and really distressed. i was able to rescue it and it let me pet it several times before flying away. I don't know if it makes sense but it felt like a message from Gertie that she was ok

Oh gosh that was totally Gertie! Many cultures have ancient myths about our loved ones returning to us as birds. She visited to tell you she is free, she is whole and heathy and looking out for you. Beautiful!

Of course you are still processing, totally understand. When and if you are ready, we will be too. Till then be good to yourself, heal on your own timeline and remember your girl is never far.

DEFINITELY  Gertie was using her energy to connect with you through that Blud Jay!!  To be able to pet the bird (Gertie) and to set her free....flying high and free.....yes, definitely  a sign with a message

Some people say when we see a Cardinal, that's our loved one stopping by to say hello.  Leave it to Gertie to use a Blue Jay for the connection😎

I'm so sorry, so devastating.

I've been following your story and what I take away is that you did everything you could for your girl.  I think second guessing is normal for us, I did a little after my Pug Maggie crossed, but after the immediate grief lessened I could look back and see I that I had done everything I could.

And it doesn't matter what anyone thinks about the Bluejay- you KNOW it was Gertie!
