This week has been a crazy whirlwind and I keep meaning to post on here an update!

I picked Annabelle up from the vet this past Saturday and she was doing surprisingly well- nothing at all like I expected! The minute we walked in the door she wanted out of my arms and went after the cat. Heck, I turned my back for literally 10 seconds and the little stinker was on the couch (mind you, she's 4 pounds- the couch is a jump!).  She has now been blocked seeing as that scared the living crap out of me, even though she acted like it was no big deal.

Aside from a couple squeaks when she was picked up that first couple days, she really hasn't acted in much pain. She's eating (not as much as she used to, but she is eating consistently and enough to where I'm not worried at this point) and drinking (drinking a LOT, maybe the meds?) and she was on the pain meds through the weekend and then she really didn't seem to act like she needed them much so I was only giving it to her a couple times a day instead of every 6 hours. She actually hasn't had any today and she's not acting any different.

She was a little unsteady on uncarpeted areas- she's been at work with me all week and I have hard floors in my office so the first day she was sliding around a bit, but now she seems ok. She greets everyone who walks in, wagging her tail and running up to them! Definitely makes me feel so much better.  She does seem more tired than normal, but I'm guessing that's either from the pain meds (as she isn't quite as bad today) or maybe she's just using more energy than normal getting around? I dont know. She isn't acting off or bad or anything- just a little more sleepy. She's always wanted to sit right near me or on me, so that isn't a new trend there.

She has a hot pink bandage around her stitches (with how small she is it actually looks more like a pink vest!) so I haven't seen the actual incision area yet. I'm actually pretty nervous about that since she gets that off this weekend.  I should be hearing the test results here in a couple of days and if all comes back the same as before, we will start chemo as soon as the stitches are out.

I do have a question though, and maybe this is an odd one, but does anyone know of anything like a lotion or something for dogs? She has really dry skin where her bandage is and I know it is starting to be itchy as the hair is growing back and the bandage is still there. The only thing I can think of is a lotion, but no idea if there is a safe, dog version out there! She hasn't scratched too badly at it, but it's flaking and know she'd feel better.

I know this isn't the best pic, but it was RIGHT after I caught her jumping on the couch literally minutes after we got home from the vet!

Welcome home Annabelle! You look great!!! Sounds like she is recovery really well (and yeah, no jumping - I have a hard time with that too). She sounds a lot like Shelby - visitors make everything better and seeing other people makes her happy.

I don't know anything about lotion for dogs (Shelby didn't really itch or get dry skin around the shaved part). Her bare bum is still pretty smooth but the undercoat is growing back and doesn't seem to bug her. The stitches itched Shelby and she had a 'cone of shame '.

But I wanted to pop by and say we're happy to hear she's doing well (and so are you).

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Well yip yip yippppeeee! I'm glad things are good and she's doing so well.

Lotion...you can try aloe vera, that's pretty harmless stuff, but do check with your vet. Is she trying to scratch it?

Watch out for those slippery floors, they can cause muscle pulls if she does too much slipping and sliding on them. You may want to consider some traction boots since she's on them all day (click on the "traction " link for ideas). You're so lucky to get to take her to work!

I am glad to hear she is doing well.  We are 3 days post op and he seems to be doing well.  I wonder if neosporin would help with the dry skin.  I know that my vet said that we could put it on the incision so it should be safe.

Xrays taken Jan 31, 2014, Osteosarcoma biopsy results Feb 10, 2014, Amputation Feb 17, 2014, Happy and healthy until June 2015 when a hip tumor started to form, passed away Aug 22, 2015.  18 months past amputation is pretty remarkable for this miracle dog!

WONDERFUL update on your precious Annabelle!

Her "recovery" picture is so sweet! She is just adorable!

Yes, she needs her rest and quiet tme right now and needs to take it easy. This is major surgery! So it sounds like she's trying to monitor herself fairy well...except for the jumping n the couch thing!

Also check with your vet before takng her off pain meds. Most dogs stay on pain meds for the first two weeks tapering down somein the second week. Remember, dogs are very stoic and try and hide their pain.

You're doing a great job and little Annabelle is lucky to have you as her partner!

Look forward to more updates AND PHOTOS!! She's just adorable!

Hugs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
