Brett,
Sometimes these big guys can be good at hiding heart disease. If he has cardiomyopathy or other heart problems then he might need to take an ACE inhibitor like benazepril or even a diuretic or a new drug called Vetmedin to get the heart pumping stronger. Maybe it is just stress from the lung mets and he needs an increased dose of steroids?
Fortis is a very tough dude and I wish him well! Let me know if you have any questions after you visit your vet.

Oh, Fortis - we are keeping all fingers and paws crossed for you, Fortis. We're holding you and your pawrents in our hearts and saying prayers for you. You've always been there for all of us, we're now all here for you. Sending huge hugs across the miles...

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

My heart hurts for you guys so much. There's been a lot of tears in the last couple of days for our dearest Fortis. And now I'm coming up empty on any more words but you know how special all three of you are to me. I feel so blessed to be apart of your life.
I want a miracle and will continue to hope for one.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Fortis, Brett and Pattie,
I need to spend more time examining all the posting so that I do not loose sight of how one of our greatest warriors is doing. While I really do not have any special in sight, know that you are in our thought and prayers. All the pawsitive thoughts possible are coming from our town in the East Bay (also hometown to Karen and the pugapalooza, as well as Mary, Cemil and her crew.)
I cannot tell you the number of times that Miss Cherry frightened the puddin out of me and I was sure that she would not be with me for much longer. This included an extremely bad period a few weeks before her one year ampuversary. Her Vet was doing a half marathon with Emily in Carmel, so Cherry and I battled through. She recovered and the three day birthday/ampuversary/care givers pawrty was a great success. This was nearly two months before she passed over. Bottom line - NEVER GIVE UP - and - ALWAYS BE OPTIMISTIC. I know that I preach to the choir when it comes to both of these, but it never hurts to remember that they can make miraculous recoveries. Faith and love does move mountains - even mountains like our big man Fortis.
Hugs, Pawsitive Thoughts, and All Our Prayers,
Spirit Cherry's Dad
So sorry to hear that Fortis isn't feeling well. You guys will be in our thoughts and we're sending well wishes your way. Good luck at the vet's.
Zack, King of Dogs, 1996 to 2010
Zack lived a full 14 years, even to the end.
The joy and memories he provided us will last a lifetime.
Surviving him is his sister, Izzy, a 12-year-old boxer mix quadpawd.
And the latest addition, Zula, an 11-month-old pit bull mix tripawd.
We're all behind you Fortis!!!! Sending lots of pawsitive thoughts and well wishes your way. Stay strong Brett and Pattie, lets hope this is just a bump in the road.
Laura and Angel Tai
Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
Brett, Fortis's mom, and of course my favorite Fortis,
I am thinking about staying positive. Fortis is an amazing guy, if there is a way, he has the will. he has rallied through so many difficult issues that I am sure he will be doing everything he can to come back from this one.
I love your dog. I think he is wonderful and I am sending my prayers out with everything I have today that he will recover and have much more quality time to spend with you. We are here for your family and will be hoping and praying for the very best for you.

I am vey late coming to your post and was so glad to hear Fortis was doing so well and then so sorry to hear of his decline. Please know you are in my prayers
