Hey I see Michelle is here! Thanks for sharing!
Many Tripawds have had great success being therapy dogs who do all sorts of work for people of all ages. Our Jerry did too! These Tripawds Blog Search Results for "Therapy Dog" share their stories.
I’m wondering if there’s an organization who helps amputee kids get used to their new lives that would involve amputee dogs to help ease the transition.
Yes! Check with The Amputee Coalition Support Group Network. Also, Children's Hospital of Colorado has a support group too. Once Walter Cottontail is certified as a therapy dog, I'm sure that he will be quite busy!

Hi and welcome. Sorry just catching up as Sally emailed me. Snickers was one of my dogs (although not a Tripawd) we were a certified Therapy dog team through Love on a Leash. Love on a Leash is a national organization and you can google their website to find out if there is a chapter in your area. Basically what the requirements are is a dog who gets a long with other dogs (as you have teams that you go with), they get a long with people and also very obedient. We went through obedience classes got our canine good citizien (not a requirement) and then passed the control test.
The control test basically if they can walk passed another dog, come on a leash (everything is done on leash never off) . All this is on Love on a Leash's website. If there isn't a chapter in your area their maybe other Therapy dog organizations around but the stuff on the website will help you out with what maybe required for them as well. If any questions your can PM me and I will get back to you.
Hugs and speedy recovery to Walter

Walt is home and doing very well. They didn't even send him home with the help em up harness because he was dragging the nurses around all morning. I was a little worried about this. Haha. Instead we have trazodone for sedation purposes.
He's already a canine good citizen so I'll look into therapy training after he recovers. It would be an excellent job for him!
Walter the Wild Boy! I'm so glad he's home. Hope you two have a chillaxin' weekend! Let us know how things are going.
(If he's already a Good Citizen k9 then you're halfway there!)
