Purpose for the post is twofold. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for all those who listened to my "whines" after Tilghman's surgery. We are ~12 weeks post amputation and are down 4 out of 5 chemo treatments!!!! Tilghman is recovering nicely- we call him our little kangaroo. He hops around like a goof but is back to his sweet, loveable, goofy self. There were lots of times when I didn't think it would be possible... we had phantom pain , a typically voracious eater not wanting to eat, mopeyness, etc... and lots of moments of doubt and questions. But he's doing GREAT! Because the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes, the prognosis remains "guarded" but all tests have been good thus far. No cancer in spleen, lungs, heart, etc. And I totally get what everyone said about adding those extra days/months, however long it is. It IS valuable and we'd do it all over again.
Truly, I cannot thank folks on this website enough. And if I can repay the favor, please reach out to me.
Also, if you don't LOVE your vet/surgeon/oncologist/etc, keep looking! We ended up at Auburn and I can't say enough great things about them. They all love Tilghman and he actually has a great time when he goes in for Chemo (he can flirt with all the girls!).
Paws and fingers crossed, but so happy we've gotten to this point.
Best,
Emmie
Awesome! So good to hear such wonderful news. Tilghman you are a star!
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
Emmie this is wonderful to hear! You were not whining, you were worrying like all of us did when going through amputation. By hanging in there and following Tilghman's lead, you done good! Woohoo!
Your advice about finding a new vet is invaluable. If you have time be sure to put a shout out to them in our Veterinary Referrals topic.
Thanks for coming back to share your great news! We hope to hear more about your 3-legged kangaroo hero!
