Calvert hurt his remaining front paw last night. He came in from outside dripping blood. I thought his incision had opened again, but after looking closer, I noticed the fur on his front paw was red. He apparently stepped on something and has a pretty deep gash in between his pads just under his dew claw. He's at the vet... again. I'll let ya'll know how he's doing. Maybe they can put some stitches in it??
Has anyone had this happen to their tripawd?
GEEEEZZZ, CALVERT, you are one crazy dude!!!!
Unfortunately things like this DO happen to a "remaining" leg!!! The hard part nowwill be keeping him quiet and confine after the vet fixes it. UGH!
Some have even had to give their dogs a doggy type valium prescribed.by.their.vets.
So sorry this has happened and I can only imagine the frustration! Kudos to you for being on top of things.and getting it taken care of so quickly!
Update when you can and hugs to you and Calvert!

Oh no Calvert! What bad luck
Hopefully it isn't something major, and he'll be able to recover soon. I know that both of my dogs have had minor paw issues in the past. My golden licks her feet, so she wasn't really new to the whole "limping" idea. And since my corgi, in the past, hated our old nail trimmers, his nails would grow longer than they should, so they would break on occasion. We've transition to a dremel though, that helped with nail trimming anxiety.
I hope Calvert gets better, and that whatever is wrong with his paw is simple and heals quickly. That must be rough, I guess a few more days of resting.
The Vet Called! Calvert will need to be put under anesthesia, then have the area shaved as best they can, debridement and cleaned well, then stitched up. When he was under anesthesia for the amputation, the pre-surgery blood work showed that his kidney enzymes were elevated, which is unusual for a pup as young as him. Soo, hopefully he will be coming home soon!! and I think a cone of shame will have to come with him. lol
Oh no...I'm sorry to hear that Calvert had a mishap during his recovery. Thank goodness he won't need another major procedure to correct it...just cleaned up and stitched. Although I know the worry that comes along with our babies being put under anesthesia...I didn't like doing that to Leland.
The trick now will be keeping Calvert calm and easy going until the stitches come out and his paw is healed.
Sorry Calvert but it definitely sounds like you may have to wear the "cone of shame " for a bit. Oh...just as a side note if the cone freaks him out (it can mess with a dog's peripheral vision) they do make inflatable doughnuts (as I like to call it) that may work. I had picked one up for Leland at my local Petsmart and he didn't seem to mind it as much as the cone.
Good luck Calvert and "try" to stay out of trouble for the next few days until the stitches come out of that paw!!

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
Calvert you are a NUT! Take it easy dude. I'm glad things are mostly OK but that does sound painful. Ouch!

Well, considering...that's good news! You better behave Calvert! Yeah, my Merry Myrtle is sooooo clumsy and completely uncoordinated! A youth thing I guess!
Thanks for updating us. Oh, and what did the vet say was the cause of the higher kidney enzymes, if anything.
Get some rest while he's still al little groggy!
Sally and Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

They aren't sure about the kidney enzymes.. we are to go back in a couple months and re check. Get thinks it could just be related to the accident wjen he got hit.
He wasnt groggy at all when I picked him up from the vet. Hes all energy now.. lol he sleeps through the night tho.
GLAD HE'S HOME AND FEEING PERKIER! Hope you ca get some sleep! YAAAAAAAY. CALVERT!!!!!
