I had to be gone for an extended work trip, and worried about Susie's welfare. When I left for London on March 12, I was still having a lot of trouble getting her to eat. (I was coaxing her, feeding her by hand, etc.) She's always had a small appetite, but I think she was still not feeling well, and food did not appeal to her at all. (She would sometimes retch in the mornings, but nothing would come up, as she hadn't eaten.)
I was giving her Pepcid, and thankfully, was able to get her off the Gabapentin before I left. So she wasn't on any meds.
While I was gone, she was fed Science Diet I/D (for gastrointestinal distress), and it must have helped, because her appetite came back and she started eating out of her bowl. Sometimes she even demanded THREE feedings a day instead of her usual two. She put some weight back on, and by the time I returned, she looked great!
She is definitely feeling SO MUCH better and can even go up and down the backyard deck steps with ease now. (She couldn't do it before I left.)
Yesterday we even hit up TWO pet shops! (Shopping is her favorite activity in the world.)
You can see from the photos below how thrilled she is to have me back home!
Look at all that HAPPINESS and ADORABLENESS and CUTENESS!! 🙂 🙂 You really can see the joy!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
It's so nice to see her hoppy smiling face! Susy the Smiling Ray of Sunshine is back and looking GREAT! Thanks for the update.

Have you really been away from her for a month! I am not sure I could have done that - my two or three day trips have been an agony of missing him. But how wonderful that she is doing so well now! Glad you're home!

Nothing cuter than a Westie - but if you tell Nitro I said that, I'll deny it! Glad she's doing well.

Was thinking about you and Susie over the weekend. A new Petco opened up. I remember you mentioning that Susie loves to shop. Otis couldn't go since he is still in the chemo period, but I got cute Petco bandanas which he and Tess are now wearing.

Susie looks fantastic-she is so adorable. Love that she loves to shop...a girl after my own heart
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
Thanks so much, Christine! I'll bet that Otis and Tess looked very cute in those PetCo bandanas!
And I remember you mentioned how I must hate to leave Susie when I have to travel for work. You are so right--it's the hardest part about my job. Luckily, I've been able to have long periods of time home with her since her diagnosis, and I work at home, too, so she gets thoroughly spoiled.
Love and (((((hugs))))xxx
