Hank's big journey is officially starting tomorrow morning where he and I will drive 2 hours to meet the team that will take his pain away. I can't believe it's actually happening. It seems like it was yesterday I was told he had osteosarcoma and the he should be put to sleep. I recall all the tears I've shed on Hank's fur not wanting to believe that it was going to be over soon. Too soon. Then I remember starting to talk to people that were going through the same and finding about here. Seems like yesterday the oncologist told me he was a great candidate for amputation. Hank never gave up which pushed me to go through all that emotional roller coaster and the tiring battle to find funding. There's angels watching on us that's for sure. The first step is finally in line. I know there's more battle to win but for now I need to focus on this one.
Thanks to all of your on Tripawds for your unconditional support! I know I will need you in the future.

I will pick him up Saturday. I will try to keep you all updated on his progress.

Hang tough Hank! Most importantly, the pain will be gone and you'll adjust to the Tripawd life. There will be bumps in the road, but we're here to help you navigate through them.

Thanks to all. Hank is now with the vet team. They are making a nice pain killer cocktail for him. They are going to work with him to walk on 3 legs before the surgery so it's not a big surprise. Nice team. I will update as soon as I get news.

Melanie,

Thinking of both you & Hank.  I am so glad the vet team doing his surgery are nice and working with him to walk.  :)   That will help him.  I am sure they won't care if you call and check on him.  I know my vet didn't.

Sending good thoughts out for you and Hank!

Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Sending you warm and strong thoughts. I hope that it went smoothly.

K, an 8 year old chocolate lab, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the radius and ulna on 12/23/11. She had stereotactic radiation to kill the bone tumors, and 3 rounds of carboplatin. On 3/16/12, lung mets were found. We tried several different kinds of chemotherapy to slow the lung mets but none worked. Finally, mets appeared at other sites, including her spine. She earned her angel wings on July 15, 2012. K changed my life, and I'll never forget her. Our/my journey is chronicled at romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com.

I hope everything is going well. Hank will be an extraordinarily handsome tripawd. Please keep us posted and try to relax through the next few weeks. There will be ups and downs, but you will be surprised at how quickly Hank learns to walk, run and be "normal." Our dogs are amazing.

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.

We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.

Good luck vibes to Hank!  The waiting is so hard...I remember sitting at work just staring at my phone, willing it to ring so I knew Lupe was okay.  Keep yourself busy if possible and get some rest!
