I brought Tasha to her oncologist at NEVOG this morning.  Unfortunately the news isn't good.  She doesn't think the tumor is osteo related...it's too large and not typical of what metastatic cancer looks like.  The radiologist is going to look over the x-rays and they'll call me next week.  We talked about her liver being enlarged and the levels being low and that there may be a tumor there causing the tumor in the lung.  She gave me the option to do a CT Scan or ultrasound to look closer.  I asked her if we did either and there was something if we could fix it.  She said unfortunately it's not fixable but you would know what it is.  I decided not to do either.  If I can't fix it then what good is it to know???

They gave her some prednisone pills that are supposed to make her more comfortable and increase her appetite.  I am really hoping they will make some difference.  As of now, she is not eating, her gums are pale, she is breathing rapidly, she hardly walks and just lays there with the saddest look in her eyes.  I've tried giving her ground turkey and even a Frosty Paw...no interest at all. It is breaking my heart...there is nothing I can do to make her better and I am just not ready to let her go.  Not that you ever are ready to let them go.  I just can't get over how quickly she declined.  Just 2 weeks ago she was running, jumping, barking, eating as if nothing was wrong.  Now she just looks exhausted as if she has given it her all and has no more to give.

We just sold our house after 8 years and are moving into the city in August.  We have been living with my parents for the past month until our new place is ready.  I feel like such a horrible mother that I moved her from her home to a new place with a dog that doesn't like her and now it doesn't seem like she is going to make the next move.  I question if the move had anything to do with this but she was literally fine 2 weeks ago!

Right now we are on a wait and see how she does with the medication before making any decisions.  I've been a wreck...you know you're dog and know when something is off but I wasn't prepared for this at all!  Cancer has a way of rearing its ugly head just when you think you've got it beat.

Tasha was a German ShepherdBorder Collie mix who was diagnosed with OSA at age 8.  On December 29, 2011 she had her front right leg amputated and received 4 rounds of chemo.  Sadly and suddenly Tasha became sick and we discovered she had liver cancer that had spread to her lung.  After almost 19 months, Tasha earned her wings on July 17, 2013. No regrets and never forgotten.

I'm so sorry you are having to deal with so much at this time. I hope the Pred can help make Tasha feel better. It soes make them very thirsty and seems to makethem more sensitive to heat. Shooter pants quite a bit which is a common side effect

We will be sending our most pawsitive thoughts.

Luanne and Shooter

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.

Oh sweet Tasha, I'm sorry you don't feel good. I wish I could make that nasty tumor go away so you could be your hoppy playful self again.

I agree with your people's choice not to poke around any further. I know my people would do the same. When there's nothing more that medicine can do to cure something, I think that by letting go of the scientific side of things, you are all able to focus on eachother and just being together. Prednisone helps a lot of doggies and I have my paws crossed that it does for you too.

My heart goes out to your people, that sounds like a stressful situation at your house. I'm sorry that your Momma feels bad about the move and all that, but you and I both know that it's not about where you live but about being hoppy just being together. {{{{hugs}}}}

We are thinking of you and hoping for better days ahead. Now go out and have fun, let your people spoil you rotten and love them up with kisses and tail wags!

That is just about the sweets, sweetest picture!! Those beautiful eyes look straight I to your soul......with just a "touch" of "I don't like my picture taken mom!"

Ditto what everyone else has said.

Jerry was spot on with her comments.

You do know the saying---"Home is where the dog is", right? We'll from a dog's perspective, "Home is where my human is".....and that's ALL that matter s to them

I really think you'll find the pred. will give her so e more quality t e with you! It can be a little miracle drug sometimes.

Yeah, my vet sort of has the same philosophy... if a test will help with a treatment, g ahead....if it won't change anything or change the meds he would suggest anyway if it was "X" .....then do 't pit your dog through it. This is just my two peenies worth.

Look forward to your updates. Tasha is a very, very loved girl and that makes her heart smile!

Sending you lots of tripawd love,

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
