Hi Everyone! I wanted to give a quick update on Sully one month post amputation.  He is doing great!  I'm not sure how we got so lucky with warm weather in Upstate New York this time of year, but it has made for some wonderful games of fetch and chase in our yard!  Sully is running, jumping, climbing up on our ottoman to nap and going up and down the stairs with us for bed at night.  He is truly amazing!

We made the decision not to do chemo for various reasons.  We are simply enjoying each and every day we have with Sully and making sure that he feels happy and loved.  We will be traveling to see our family and his favorite dog friends over Christmas, now that he is well enough.  I'm hoping the trip isn't too much for him, but I know he will love seeing his favorite grandparents and dog cousins.

We go back to Sully's vet in February for a chest x-ray unless there is concern between now and then.  He's not a big fan of the vet's office, so we wanted to give him some "normalcy" before dragging him back there again.  My three year old seems to think that Sully will lose a leg each time he is there, as when we took him for his last check up he said, "When Sully comes back from the vet he will have two legs!" He was very happy when Sully came home and still had 3 legs.

For now, I am working hard not to read in to each little burp and hiccup worrying that it's a cough or a sign of lung mets.  Sully's vet reminds me constantly to take each day in stride, so when I wake up in the morning to Sully staring at me trying to give me his paw (he's still trying...) I tell myself that "today is a good day" and try not to worry about tomorrow.

I am so thankful to have found such a great support group.  I don't get on here as often as I would like to respond to posts. My three boys (2 human and 1 fur) keep me constantly busy, but I do love to check in when I can and see how all these amazing pups and cats are doing! 🙂

Here is a picture of Sully rocking his favorite red turtleneck! 🙂

HAPPY ONE MONTH AMPUVERSARY SULLY!!!! clap

I LOVE that picture of you styli ' that scarf! And yiur avatar picture always makes me smile. You are such a handsome boy!

You are making decisions for Sully that have ensured him QUALITY and a stress free life full of loving and spoiling! Chemo is such a personal choice with no guarantees. My brain is on "vacation" right now and I can't remember the name of the dog who must celebrated a TWO YEAR ampuversary with no chemo!

Your son's remark...sooo precious! He and Sully are probably sharing the same thought bubble about vet trips!!

And yes, today is a good day and that's all that matters! You are dping an EXCELLENT job of staying in the present with Sully and have great insight into what it takes to keep Sully happy and loving life. His Christmas sounds like it will be wonderful! Take lots of pictures.

Cake and ice cream fqkr every! Keep on rockin' sweet Sully! We are all cheering for you! You area stellar example kf how big dogs can rock life on three legs!

Love and hugs!

OHHh thank you for the big smiles to start my day! I love this! Love that Sully, and am soooo very happy to hear things are good and back to the new normal. Thanks for taking time to let us know, you sound so busy right now!

I can totally relate to your choice to opt out of chemo (we did as well) and can sense that you are at peace with knowing you made the best decision for him. We send all our best for a long, happy, healthy life on 3 and a very hoppy holiday season to you and your family!!!!

Good going Sully! I just love danes and follow a website of great danes being bred, raised and trained as service dogs. They are so goofy and dignified when need be. They say they are also great thinkers so I imagine Sully has this all figured out.

Enjoy visiting the favourite grandparents and canine cousins.

Thanks for the update and Happy Ampuversary Sully!  I hope this is the first of many, many Ampuversaries.

Have a wonderful Christmas and have fun visiting the cousins!

And no wonder Sully is not a fan of the vet's office, he probably thinks he's going to lose a leg each time he goes there too!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
