Storm's stitches are out rasberry

The wound is looking quite good. He has a couple of sore spots but nothing too bad but I've had to leave his t-shirt on as he keeps worrying them.

My main concern is that he will overdo things now. He is getting increasingly distressed if the other dogs go out and we were letting him have a short lead stroll on the field before he went back in the car and the girls had their walk but he is now digging his heels (all three of them) in and refusing to go back!! He has always been a fit and energetic dog but not toy orientated apart from a ball so I can't seem to keep his mind active, any advice will be great fully received.

Hey Storm, you sound like my Lucy.  She is always ready and eager to go go go!  We don't have any other dogs so we just go at her pace.  When she gets tired, or when I can tell she's tired I make her stop.  The hardest part is not letting her get so far away from home or the car that we can't get back.  That's never fun!  I don't have any advise other than to go with him and limit the distance.  I know, I know, easier said then done.

You're beautiful Storm!  So glad you're doing better!

Mary, Lucy's mom

Lucy's front right leg was amputated 12/19/11. Thankfully there was no tumor, but her nerves were found to be degenerative.  Life as a tripawd is Lucy's new adventure!!

Storm says thank you Mary, he thinks that he's quite handsome too!

Its really difficult having the other two and at 12 months old they need plenty of exercise. It doesn't help that he was walking at least 5k a day beforeutation which was only 10 days ago. He's bored and frustrated and it's a little bit exasperating. He sees the oncologist on Thursday, if he has chemo I'm not sure if that will slow him down and make him take it easy, he's a stoic old boy.

Thanks for the great update! big-grin Please keep us posted.

All in good time Storm...take things one day at a time and focus on rebuilding strength, confidence, and balance. Start with core exercises, unstable surface work, and short walks. Following as I can forsee we will have the same problems once the pain has gone

Wondering if taking them somewhere there is more to investigate rather than open spaces would be good as a slower walk with lots of sniffing,  also different surface walking to get them thinking about how they use their legs, maybe some brain games, also stuffed kongs all things to keep them occupied and their brains working, mental exhaustion rather than physical?

Brain exhaustion is a really good idea! I wonder if you could also start some rehab, working on his core muscles and doing some massage?

Active 10+ Pyr mix suddenly came up lame with ACL tear in left rear leg. Scheduled for a TPLO but final pre-op x-rays indicated a small suspicious area, possibly OSA, which could have caused the ACL tear. Surgeon opened the knee for TPLO but found soft bone. Biopsy came back positive for OSA. Became a Tripawd 9/18/14. Carbo6 with Cerenia and Fluids. Pain free and living in the moment. Crossed the Bridge on 7/12/15 after probable spread of cancer to her cervical spine. A whole lifetime of memories squeezed into 10 months. Here's her story: Eloise
