Welcome Zeke!
It sounds like the recovery is going well! I hope the tummy is better by now.
He's a beaut!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Hi Zeke,
My you are a handsome boy! Glad to hear that you're handling the steps a bit better now. It just takes some time to adjust and you're just less than a week post-op… so you're doing pretty well.
We didn't have any stairs in our home but we had slippery floors (ceramic and laminate) and our Jake needed help getting in and out of our pool (once his staples came out). We purchased a great inexpensive sling from Foster & Smith and that helped us (and him) tremendously until he got his Ruff Wear harness. Jake also started to vomit a few days after starting his NSAID (previcox) and the vet suggested we give him pepcid AC daily, and that solved the vomiting right away. Afterwards, we switched to meloxicam and he continued taking the pepcid without any problems. He also did fine on the tramadol… luckily no problems with that.
Wishing Zeke a speedy recovery… Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your handsome boy!!
Angel Jake and Wolfie's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Thanks for the great update! Glad to hear Zeke is doing so well.
Some NSAIDs can cause severe internal damage, and should not be used long term. If the stomach issues keep up, stop them immediately and ask you vet for a diffderent drug. Rimdayl and Previcox both made Jerry rather sick pretty quickly before and after his amputation, but he handled Metacam very well for nearly two years.
