Whoohoo for the 5 minute pee! (We get really excited about first post-amp pees around here. You should see what we do for first poos! I still remember Abby's... Good times. good times.)
As for the drainage, a tshirt should help. We used some old sleeveless tanks of mine and tied or pinned them up behind her so she wouldn't get tangled up in them. It helped soak up the drainage and keep it off our cream colored carpet!
All the best, hope he recovers quickly and is up and hopping about soon,
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Now we can all breathe again!
Way to go Spencer!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Good job on the peeing, Spencer. We celebrate anything around here!
A t-shirt on him will help with drips from the drain. You can safety-pin it in a couple of places around his middle to take up the slack.
I have a long and narrow laundry room (slippery floor) with a dog door in it. That's Dakota's way out to pee. I bought 2 yoga mats at Target (about $10 each) and laid them end-to-end in the room. They work really well because they are kind of tacky and stay on the floor very nicely. If you are worried about drips in a larger area of the room, can you put down a big blanket and tack it down with small carpet tacks or push pins? That would provide him with a spot to crash without confining him to a tiny area. I go to my local thrift stores and buy blankets for my dogs. Cheap and handy.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

First poops, and solid poops! Percy's on chemo right now, so solid poops are a cause for celebration. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm nuts.
Man oh man I bet that pee felt good!
Tate had a hemipelvectomy so he had a lot taken out too and yeah, it was definitely heartbreaking to see him struggle. Oh my gosh he was in such bad shape, I can't even read his earliest blog posts, just too much. But I'm here to tell you it does get better. About week 3 he really turned the corner and now he's just his same ol' Tater Tot self. Spencer will get there too. Just accept sometimes you just can't make it better, and the only thing you can give him is time.
But I digress. Tate had what you're calling "extra skin". It's not really extra skin, it's extra fluid, like a flubby pouch under his incision. And it did get absorbed back into his body and tightened up.
Best of luck with the closing and everything else!

Woohoo, Spencer! You're on the way now. Mom will be waiting for that first poo now! It can be long few days.

Like everyone else said, the first #2 will have you hooting and hollering in approval! Be prepared from this point on for your neighbors thinking you are a wee bit wacky 🙂
