Wow, what a blessing the past six months have been. Sophie was diagnosed with bone cancer on March 31st, and here we are six months later and she is doing wonderful. Outside of the two Aredia treatments in mid-April, I have had Sophie on the following: 2 Curamin tabs in the morning, 2 scoops of Nupro w/breakfast, 6000mg of fish oil tabs in the morning, 2 Butyrex tabs w/6000 mg of Artemisinin in the evening just before bedtime. Her meals consist of boiled chicken, brown rice, mixed veggies with extra doses of spinach, broccoli and brussel sprouts. I am astonished at how well she is doing, especially since the vet said she had 6 to 8 weeks without any chemo or amputation. She has slimmed down from about 180 to 150 which is a result of her diet and elimination of treats that were high in carbs. Her spirit, appetite and activity level are great, with the only real difference being that she no longer takes of on long runs. She will still go on a short run after a squirrel or rabbit and loves to play catch with the football. After losing another dane to lymphoma, this is truly a miracle.
Wow! That's fantastic!!!! So good to hear. Sounds like the mix of diet and supplements you have her on is really working for her.
I hope she keeps kicking cancer's butt for a long time!
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. That's awesome. It certainly sounds like the diet is helping Sophie to beat the odds.
Keep enjoying this wonderful extra special time together.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Happy ampuversary, big beautiful Sophie! She is one BIG girl. So glad to hear you found the plan that works well for the two of you. That diet sounds yummy! I had Trouble on the Canine Reducing Diet. It was pretty yummy too - carrots, green beans, cottage cheese, and turkey (sometimes fish, beef, or chicken).
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
