I am so happy, I got my baby back today. She is doing so well. I am amazed how quickly she bounced back. She was so eager to get in the car and go. She just needed some help getting in. Her good front leg is a little swollen, though.

Yay!!! I was actually waiting to see this post!!!!
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Yipeee! I hope you both have a relaxing, nice weekend recuperating on the couch.
Keep the vet informed about the swollen leg. Other Tripawds have had this issue and usually it's nothing serious, but you do want to ask your vet what you can look for in case it get more swollen.
Cuddle away, the hardest part is over!

Is it the leg the IV was in? When I just called to check on jilly the vet said her leg with the IV in it was a little swollen and they were just keeping an eye on it

Good point! I hadn't thought about that as a possibility. I hope Jill's swelling goes away soon.

Thanks! I'm going to visit her soon. The vet asked me to come back last night because she would only eat with me there. It's amazing how they recognize their people lol

Glad socks is home! Get some rest before the fun (real fun) start. It's remarkable the progress than make in so little time. They are so resilient. Keep an eye on that leg and stay in touch with your vet. They like to know how things are going. All the best!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Glad Socks is home. Time flies.

Yes, the swelling was in the leg the iv was in. It has went down since yesterday. She has been doing a lot of sleeping, especially yesterday. She wants me to let her in the backyard with other dogs, but the vet told me to walk her. She wants to go all over outside, even goes to the car for a ride. Yet I still feel like I did something selfish. I hope she still can have a good quality of life. I have never been around a dog the was missing a front leg. I still find myself wondering if I did the right thing. Yes she does seem like her old self just a little slower. Why do I feel this way? Is this a normal reaction?

Completely. Normal.
It's hard to see any of our loved ones struggling to recover, but especially dogs. There are moments that every new Tripawd pawrent has that makes them doubt their decision, but after a few weeks, things DO get better, I promise. And soon you will wonder why you were ever so worried. For now, put yourself in her paws, and try to imagine how you would be if you were recovering from a leg amputation. Most humans would far far worse than a dog does. Dogs are so much more resilient!
Follow your vet's advice. It's hard when you have other dogs around but it will minimize the risk of complications.
Hang in there, things will get better. If you want to vent, we are here for you.

Christmas came early for Socks and I today. The greyhound adoption group called my vet today and paid all the bill from her amp surgery. I can never thank them enough for what they did. Socks is doing well. She is going for car rides and trying to trot around on the leash with me. I didn't know she would be doing these things this quickly. She amazes me everyday.
