Hello Everyone,
It's a comfort to come to this site. Thank you.
Slim had a rear leg amputation with complications and a follow up surgery. He's doing well today. Has had 2 out of 6 chemo treatments and will be "staged" tomorrow -- chest xray. So far, the chemo treatments don't appear to have much of an effect on his appetite (he's hungrier than ever) or energy level. It is hard for him to get around as he is a big boy (80lbs) and has arthritis in his front feet.
We are looking for a harness that will help him on our short walks and a dog life preserver, as he is a swimmer and we would love to get him in the water once he is ready.
Thanks for all the support. This site was incredibly helpful when we were making the decision to amputate or not.
Slim's Dad and Mom
I remember Slim and have wondered about him and a few other dogs that had surgery late spring/early summer. I'm glad to hear that he is doing well and hope his chest xrays come through clear.
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/
Hey it's good to hear from you, I'm glad to know that Slim has bounced back and didn't have any side-effects from the chemo. Good luck with the x-rays, we have our paws crossed for you both!
It will help to post his girth size here and in the Angel Exchange, just so people know what size he might need. We'll do our best to help you find a harness and float coat .
Keep us posted on the vet visit.

Well monday will be round four of the chemo therapy for Slim and so far he is doing great! They say that chemo can decrease his appetite but in his case it did the opposite, he act's like he is starving. He is in good spirits and has adjusted to life on three legs well...barring trying to scratch his his ear with a leg that is no longer there. tomorrow we go to the lake and go swimming.
Swim away Slim! I'm so glad to hear you're going through this like a champ. Thanks for giving so many people hope for their own Tripawds!!!
How about some video for tomorrow's big day? We'd love to see it.

Oh yeah, a video would be so great! I think Slim is a handsome dude and hope you update us often. Glad he's doing well and that food tastes good to him. Without good food, what joy is there?

Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Great to hear how well Slim is doing! We need pics! We love pics! Good luck with the rest of your chemos.
All our Best,

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end.
