BTW - now that she doesn't have a rear leg, will she still be able to sit on my lap like this? You think? She likes to sit outside and watch the world go by.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Woo Hoo....Shelby's surgery is over and she is on the road to recovery!
After her initial recovery, Shelby will amaze you will the way she will be able to adapt to her new reality - being a tripawd. Shelby may indeed still be able to sit on your lap that way
For now, go and visit....and afterwards...try to get some rest.
Shelby will be home soon and will need some extra TLC during the next few weeks.
Keep us posted on how she is doing.
Hugs

Great to hear that she is awake. Now onto recovery. Just remember the first few weeks can be a lot of up & downs. Do not get discouraged. It may seem like she is depressed but a lot of that can be the meds on board from the surgery & the pain killers. Most see their dogs personality come back when the stitches come out.
Shelby will most defiantly be able to sit on your lap like that
Hugs

Woot! Woot! That's pawesome news!!!
Of course she'll be able to sit like that, she will find a way, dogs always do.
About those nodules...IF they are cancer, I have all the confidence in the world that Dr. Turner can treat and stabilize them. But let's not even go there yet.
Hope your visit went well. Keep us posted!

GOSH....HOLY MOLY...GEE WHILLIGERS!! You have indeed been n a roller coaster! Jist came back from posting onyour other post and was so stressed out I thought I would need a box of ice cream to settle me down!
SHELBY IS OUT OF SURGERY AND AWAKE!! AWAKE?? She is one tough cookie...and so are you!!
Love thatpicture on here! So sweet!! Yeah, she'll figure out how to sit on your lap, don't worr about that! Hap Hannah didn' lay on her incision site for almost five weeks, and kind of avoided "sittng n that side" for several weeks......mlst dogs do it sooner though.
And yeah, like Jerry said, don't worry about the lung stuff yet. You and Shelby just focus on taking it day by day and getting through revocery and just enjoy being toge ther!
SHELBY IS AWAKE AND OUT OF SURGERY!! Her painful leg is no more!!
We love you guys! Let us know how your visit went, okay? You WILL sleep well tonight and so will Shelby...althoug in her case, it will be drug induced!
With much admiration toyou both!
Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
thank you all!!! It was very comforting to sit w/her (even though she was high as a kite and doing the whining thing where her tongue is hanging out of her mouth). They said she wouldn't know I was even there but she did. She wagged her tail! They shaved her booty - again. Not sure why since they took her leg (not her booty). They had a bandage on so it wasn't that traumatic for me.
Pre-surgery, she would stretch ALL her legs straight out. I wonder if her tail wagging was inadvertently phantom stretching. They didn't have her walking but she was hooked up to IVs.
It has been an extremely emotional stressful day and I am not sure how I held it together - mother's love? Either way, you're right Jerry. We will focus on her recovery and not worry about those nodules yet. Her painful leg is off and we will focus on getting better.
I've got some wine to help me sleep (it's awful to be here w/out her) but I plan to get up early, go workout and get on w/my day and pop by her on the way home. I bet she feels a ton better tomorrow. She's coming home Friday after I get off work.
I'll let you know how she is tomorrow. Thanks again for the love! We send lots of love to all you also!

Hi! Great news Shelby seems to be fine after surgery ! She's so cute! I remember when Penny got her right rear leg amputated how nervous I was and all that waiting until the vet. called and said everything had went well. It's a wonderful feeling! Like people write here, you will see how amazingly Shelby will adapt to her new situation. I didn't take long for my bullmastiff Penny until she was running as fast as my labrador Wilbur, she jumped up in the sofa, walked the stairs, ran in the snow and so on. Of course all individuals are different, but usually most dogs are doing fine. And a good thing about dogs is that they don't feel sorry for themselves like we humans can do. Dogs just adapt and LIVE! We have so much to learn from dogs/animals. Good luck to you ! Looking forward to hear how everything is going.
