Cody lost her front foreleg 10 days ago. There has been some seepage, clear to pink and no odor. I assumed that was normal. But now a hole has developed next to the incision and the fluid is leaking from there. Please let me know if anyone has experienced this and what it means. I'll be on the phone with her vet tomorrow but meanwhile it's freaking me out. Other than that she seems to be doing well.

Oh, we understand "freaking out" all to well around here!!

As Jerry said, not t worry. I'm sure you've checked out ser a by now. Kt could also be that Cody's pulled a stitch or two loose.

The fact that she's doing wel, is also good news. I know this looks scarey and I'm glad you're getting her to the vet toorrow. But I think you'll find it's really nothing to be concerned about. Try and keeit "debris free" as best you ca in thd meantme.

Update us torrow AND tell us more about your sweet Cody.

Take a couple of deep breaths, eat some chocolate and go give Cody a hug and watch her tail wag! I knlw that will make you feel better!

Take care! We are here with you!

Ok so let us know what the vet says. It's not uncommon for something like that to happen but it's important to stay on top of it to avoid infection. Good luck and keep us posted.

Cody is at the vet now. They're cleaning the wound and bandaging it. Apparently the seroma had burst through her skin. An added problem is that she had radiation therapy earlier this year and the skin is weaker than normal. They sounded optimistic that it could be healed up with bandaging and maybe stitches. I sure hope so. The poor girl has been through so much. Thank you for your replies. It does help. I'm glad that I found this site:)

And thank you for getting back to us even while you're at the vets!! Actually, this is pretty good news so I'm glad it's nothing "worse". Seromas look scarey but, as you are already seeing, can be easily treated.

Maybe you can search the site here or "google" nutrition l or supplements that can help when a dog has had radiatin on a site that has stitches.

I know this is upsetting, but these "bumps in the road to recovery" are fairly "normal" here.

I'm glad that, otherwise, she is doing so well. It does co tinue to get better...it really does!! Let us know how she's doing when she gets home. Of course, after you stop y the store and pick her up a big juicy steak! Seriously! She deserves steak tonight! And we want pictures!! And be sure and pick up some ice cream for yourself, okay?

Hugs to you and Cody! Let us know more about her when you can. Sounds like she's been on quite an ..."interesting?"...journey!

Here's Cody home from the vet! I'm not up to figuring out how to post a picture yet but I got her pic in my avatar. She hates that cone. Her vet seems to think that all will be well. I'm skeptical because everything has gone wrong all year. But I'm ready to have hope again that she'll be a happy pain free tripaw who doesn't have to wear a cone someday! Okay where is that chocolate!

Ohhh what a cutie!!!

OK here is a post about how to add images to forum discussions. It's easy peasy, if you can figure out the avatar you can do this too. But if not (and who can blame you after all you've been through), just let us know and we'll splash her pretty face on the forums for ya!

Remember: THINK PAWSITIVE! Chocolate definitely helps!

CODY!! You are ne beautiful girl even in "the" cne! In fact, yo make the cne look stylish! All dogs are going to begging for e when tney co e out of surgery!!

Yeah, ths journey is full of ups and downs, but mostly the down part comes and goes during the recovery. So, I dn't want to say to have "issues" is 'normal"...its jjust not unexpected!

I d't th k the vet would say he felt like this would take care f it if he didn't think so......so that's very encouragingsmiley

Try and focus on the fact that she's probably already more pain free now...this early after major surgeey...than she was before the surgery.
