Oh he is so handsome! Thanks for the pic.
Yoda's a lucky dawg to have such a great advocate like you
Hang in there, things will come together.

So I talked to our oncologist today. We're scheduling another CT scan.
We have two plans, one if he has visible lungmets and one if he doesn't
If he has lungmetastasis they're not going to amputate. Chances are that he has because he is showing some of the symptoms like panting, coughing and there are suspect spots visible on x-ray. We're going to try the metronomic therapy if this is the case. The oncologist said he is willing to try but does not expect anything from it.
If he doesn't have lungmets the leg will be amputated and the regular chemo will continue.
Thanks for the update! Best wishes.

Sounds like a very common plan, it makes sense. We have our paws crossed for a good outcome. Keep us posted.

So, tomorrow morning we're going in for the CT scan.
I was wondering how you guys dose the artemisinin .. Yoda currently gets about 1400mg per day, 700mg in the morning and 700mg in the evening. From what I've read this should be about right..?
I also read that it should be cycled, 2 weeks on and 1 week off, correct?
Thanks for the update, and best wishes for tomorrow. We never used with Jerry but many others have posted about Artemisinin here in the forums, and links to more information about Artemisinin can be found in the Nutrition blog .

Thanks for the artiminisin links but I fear we won't be needing it any longer. CT showed Yoda has far too much metastasis in his lungs to do anything about it. Oncologist said metronomics would be of no use at this time. He also has spots in other bones..
All that rests now is to give him the best last days or weeks we can.
So sorry. We know how devastating this news can be. Please try to remember that lung mets are not painful, and dogs are capable of living happily with much less lung capacity that humans require. Jerry showed no serious signs of discomfort until nearly 90% of his lungs had been consumed. Please give pascal a big hug for us.
FYI: We wrote this post when Jerry started to tire from the growth of his metastases:

Thanks all.
At the moment he is very tired from the big day he had. We don't expect him to live more than a few weeks now, it's just so agressive..
It's tough, but he's had such a great life, from wandering around in the snow in Austria and his "home country" Switzerland" to our daily walks, I took him with me everywhere I went. I even met my girlfriend during one of our walks, nothing but good memories.
I decided to give our oncologist the opportunity to use the leg with the tumor for research and perhaps find out why the nuclear therapy didn't work. We also participated in DNA research. I hope other dogs will some day benefit from this.
I was also wondering if there is any information out there regarding percentage of osteosarcoma in different breeds, I searched online and asked at our university but little is known..

The Tripawds Amputation Survey revealed these results about the top three dog breeds with bone cancer. There have been over 130 surveys submitted to date and you can download all the current survey result data to find out more. You can complete the survey here.

We couldn't find any comprehensive studies either, so we published our own and have made the results available to anyone who wishes to analyze the data. Thanks for submitting pascal's details!

So, final update..
Last thursday was our final day with Yoda. Cancer had entirely filled his lungs and there was nothing more we could do unfortunately. On the last day he had incredibly bad breath, we suspect it was necrosis of lungtissue.
He will be missed. I can only hope our next Saint will such a good and kind dog as well.
