Ruby is having a host of problems.  We took her to the vet yesterday and she took her off Tramadol  but left Gabapentin 300mg 3xday, Metro...zole (diarrhea med) 2xday, and she has fentanly patches of 2 of them 25mg(mcg??).  I'm going to try and upload a photo of her incision which they think may be dead skin (black part) and she may have to have a deridement on Monday.  We are just very upset bc she just can't get comfortable. She is literally pacing around with a low whine, tail tucked, looks at her back side which we think is either sore muscles or sore butthole (from diarrhea).  We are deciding what to do today....take her to vet?  Take her to PT?  Wait it out?  We are just tired of her being sick and Kacy is beginning to get discouraged that she will always be sick from now on (I keep assuring her it's not).  Anyway I'll try and upload a photo next....

So tough!  She had such a good start - I hate that her diarrhea seems to be making this all so difficult. I saw the photo on your blog page of the black skin around the incision.  Has she been on antibiotics?

So hard to say what is making her act so painful - the diarrhea or the amp or the incision issue.  I don't think I would start PT yet - I'd want her feeling better and that incision issue dealt with.

Poor Ruby - feel better soon pretty girl

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

I'm so sorry for Ruby and for both of you! I'm always so sad to read when one of the new tripawds has a tough start. Hopefully the wound issue gets resolved - I bet that is making her unhappy.

Yeah, saw her incision photo. I would think they woukd definitely do the surgery to remove the tissue Monday. I know this is frustrating as heck, but it does happen.

Wish I was more computer savvy or coukd work the search thing better. We just had a dog who had to go thru this, as well as a host of other issues. It was either MADISON or OLLIE

As far as the hunched walking and apparently pain somewhere in her backside, it seems that soreness from diarrhea would not cause those symptoms. Hunched up also can indicate tummy pain. I would really get the vet to check her over really thoroughly. It seems like something is hurting her back there...pinched nerve, something tummy wise...hard ro say.

The patches can ddefinitely cause some weird whiny behavior.

Maybe a seond opinion???

I joined this site on day six of Happy Hannah's amputation. She was having a rough recovery. Whining, crying, restless couldn't get comfortable, etc. I thought I had made a horrible mistake! This community pulled me through and we are here to pull you through! It took me three looooong weeks before I could finally say I did this FOR my Happy Hannah and not TO her.

Hang in there! Her sparkle WILL come back!!! Soon this recovery stuff will be a distant memory.

Keep us updated, okay? We're cheering for Ruby!!

Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

It was Ollie's Thread.  And I was thinking of it, too.  Oliver and his peeps had a really tough time of it and he had a few follow up procedures/ops before really turning the corner.  The pics of the bad tissue around incision are on page 11 I think (or maybe 10).  It is a long one, but may be useful for you, Lisa and Kacy.
