Well, today marks the one week point since my almost 13-year-old boy, Scooter, had his amp surgery!

He is progressing really well, is pooping, peeing, eating, and drinking like a champ, and is a happy little boy. We are starting to see some of his sparkle return, and it's really hopeful!

I'm wondering how long everyone waited until they went back to work - I've been working from home this last week, but need to go into the office at least a few times next week to get a few things done that I can't do from home.

Assuming pain is still under control (he's on Gaba every 5.5-6h and Metacam every 24h), my hope is that by the 11 or 12 day mark I can run into the office for a few hours.

When did you all leave your fuzzbutt for the first time? I'm pretty sure he would be fine, but it still freaks me out!

Thank you for everything!! 💚

So glad to hear how well Scotter is doing.  Excellent  progress this early on!

FWIW, Scooter should be fine on his own next week for several hours at a time.

You just wwnt to make sure he's not messing with his s stitches, although they may be out by then.  And you want to do what you can to keep him "confined" enough so he cant be jumping  up on high places, eliminating risk of falling, etc.

You both are doing a great job!

Hoppy ampuversary, Scooter! Yay!

I would say that if you can have someone come over and check on him while you are gone it should be fine to go back next week. Just keep him to a smaller section of your house and make sure he can't get into any trouble. If he uses a doggy door to let himself out is there any way you could keep him to a smaller section of your yard?

Most people do go back to work bu the following week and just have someone come check on their new Tripawd. Like Sally mentioned, making sure he's not messing with his incision is important. He may still need to wear a surgery recovery suit or cone by that time and that's totally fine.

Can you put a doggie cam on him if nobody can come over?

Thank you so much, guys!

I plan to only be gone between med doses, and I'm going to set up a camera in his "recovery zone" to keep an eye on him.

Does everyone question everything they do in this time too? Talk about a rollercoaster!

I hope everyone who is going through this stumbles upon tripawds - I seriously would feel so alone without you guys!

Yes we ALL question everything! Being super hyper-vigilant is also common, you'll be on pins and needles for a while. We will be here for you next time you feel like panicking!

We are glad you found us too. Every story helps someone else.

You are never alone with the Tripawd community  by your side!

Recovery is so new and scary and hard to know what's "normal" and what's not.  We get it!  Stay  connected  and ask any questions s that arise, okay?  You'll relaxed more as you see how well Scooter adapts and reclaims his normal routines he gets further and further along.

You are doing an excellent  job👍

As a data point, I spent two weeks at home. I am sure she would have been fine sooner but I took it way hard and thought it was the end of the world. Lacey is my little girl if you want to read what we went through. Best of luck to you. These dogs are amazing how fast they can bounce back…
