Hi Susan, it's Hori at 19 days post ampu. I added it in the title. Long to see Tazzie in moving pictures.
Had to laugh when reading the snapshot of Tazzie would have been the same as video. Same here!!

Hello, this is for Boinks and other tripawds having trouble getting up! She actually manages by herself, but as everything, this is easier when somebody helps. Video of Hori getting up in the morning:

Thanks Cecilia, we posted this in our new Hopping Around topic: Tripawd Movies, Before and After Surgery. If you have any others like this, be sure to add them there.
Also, we put Hori in our YouTube Playlist! She's a star!

I am loving the videos and am hoping that Boinks gets her self-confidence back and is willing to try more walking. There are definitely personality changes after amputation. Brody would walk for hours before, but sometimes now when we are ready for a walk he just heads for the nearest tree so that he can lie down.
However, he did have his second session at the dog park this weekend. There were a lot of big and aggressive dogs there, but Brody wanted to be in the middle of it; he was chasing dogs and being chased (never interacted with other dogs that much before) like he was a puppy; and then he would stop and let his tongue hang out and pant. He didn't lie down once. So don't give up. I can't believe we are already at almost four months post amp.

Hooray for day 6 post-op!
Boinks had a big day today. She was up all night last night, panting heavy and uneasy so we were quite worried about her. This morning, she wet her bed a bit, so we carried her outside on her blanket and laid her down in the grass. Like a crazed, furry lawnshark, she started wiggling on her tummy as fast as she could across the lawn toward the trees in our backyard. I couldn't imagine what the heck was going through her head, but her tail was flapping furiously like she was using it to propel herself forward.
As she neared the woods, she decided she was going to get up and walk, and she did. Just like that! Well, there was struggling and she fell a few times, but she managed to keep her dignity. Then, bam, she got herself to a spot she liked and let nature take its course. We cheered and she looked at us with that big sheepish grin, took two steps forward and faceplanted. She rested there for two hours.
I got her on camera, while she was still standing, on her way back to the house some time later.
She laid there by the fence for a few more hours, and we had to get the blanket to get her back inside, but all in all, a good day.
You're getting the hang of it Boinks, keep it up! Good to know your days are getting better.

Quick update. Day 11 and no real progress. Boinks hasn't stood up on her own since day 6 and she doesn't even stand to do her business now. She just messes on herself. She slides on her belly still, but she's starting to refuse to do that. She's not eating much, and she whimpers a lot.
We take her to the vet on Tuesday to get her stitches removed, so she'll get another check-up then. We've decided to not do chemo until she starts to show some improvement. There is a specialized pet rehab center here in Durham, NC that we might need to look into, depending on what the vet says.
Still, it's a sunny day and we're hoping she'll surprise us.
I am really sorry to hear that Boinks has not gotten back on her feet and had been wondering about the big girl. Day 11 - she could still be in the mental adjustment/cement phase. Tazzie did stand once per day to do his business, but otherwise there was no real movement until just past 2 weeks, and she has twice the body size to carry. Is she still on strong pain-killers
Since she is not eating much and still whimpers, it is probably good to see a vet soon.
The pet rehab sounds like a great idea. And maybe they have a little swimming tub (does Boinks like to swim) if she prefers to move that way.
Wishing you all the best this week,
Susan & Tazzie
Oh, my gosh, I am so sorry to hear Boinks is not up and about. I am glad you are going to the vet on Tuesday so you can see what is going on. You and Boinks are in my prayers.
Debra
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
We are so sorry, please let us know what the vet says. Boinks is a tough girl, we know she's giving this all she's got. We're sending our good thoughts and healing wishes.
As far as getting her to eat, try getting some stinky food. Stinky meats like braunschwager are good, or even, dog forbid, cat food has been known to tempt dogs when they don't feel like eating.
Hang in there. I know Tuesday seems like a long way off, but it'll be here soon.
