It's now almost 3 weeks post-amputation and as of this past weekend, Jack can now do EVERYTHING he did before the surgery!  On saturday he finally got over his fear of walking down stairs when we decided to go for a walk as a family, and now goes down 2 at a time!  Then today he really wanted his pink ball and did his favorite trick, a high-five, to get it!  The high-five was the last thing he had yet to re-learn, so now he's back to his old self 🙂  Also, yesterday we went to visit the "grandparents" and before we left he ate breakfast.  Then he had a big plate of pork for lunch and when dinner rolled around he ate his first bowl so fast we gave him a second which he also polished off!  And this is a dog who HATES eating!!!  We were getting a little worried because he was down to 41 pounds (he started at 48 and was 45 after surgery).  Yay for the simple little successes!  It's been quiet around these forums the last couple days, so I take that as a good sign that everyone is truckin' along without incident.  Let's keep it up Superstar

Yeah Jack! Have your Mom take a movie or photo of that Hi Five trick, we would love to see it.

So okay, 3 weeks post amp, and it's wonderful to hear you're feeling GREAT. Your update is so hopeful to those people who are in the early phases of coping with amputation and are having a hard time believing that things can get better. Thank you for showing them that life does get better after amputation!

I agree, it's been quiet around here, which I like to think means "no news is good news," right? Sure hope so everyone! Happy Summer Cool

Hopefully this works!  This is Captain Jack and his "little" brother, our German Shepherd/Sheltie mix beast of a 7 month old, Stephen Colbert doing their high-fives!

It sure is reassuring to see!  Thanks for sharing Jack's progress!!

Yoda is 17 days post-amputation.  He is happy to see his beloved rawhides, (including a sweet potato version he also likes) but won't take them from me yet.  Sad

He is getting on the couch again though.  I guess he knew the idea of him getting up there so soon would make me nervous because so far he'll only do it when I'm not home or not in the room and, initially, was hopping off if I entered the room - even though he's been allowed on the couches for over a year now! (He was never really not allowed, he just never tried until the dogs of housemates' arrived and taught him to do it).  I really want to see how he does it, but I think at this rate I'll have to set up a hidden camera!

Given the heat today, Yoda wants to attempt the basement stairs, but for now I'm putting my foot down.  He still tires very quickly, only going on very short walks, and the staircase to the basement is pretty long.  So I'm turning on the A/C and waiting for his endurance to pick up.
