Hey y’all!
Cupcake and I just got back from her 3 month post op visit with her vet. I requested chest xrays just so I can have some preparation in the case metastases pop up.
NO METS!!

Reminder that we first saw the growth already compromising her bone way back in February. None then, none at the time of surgery in July, and none 3 months post op.
Dr said he was very pleasantly surprised with her scans and that it is definitely rare for this to happen but maybe we lucked out and she’s an outlier.

She has managed to shock everyone and bamboozle everyone even from the moment it first popped up on her scans. Everyone was sure there was no evidence of cancer and was sent to multiple clinics/departments with the same conclusion.
Maybe our girl is a rarity and she will be with us through to old age. I know microscopic mets are always going to be a possibility even if they never present a year down the road, but who knows.
We are definitely being more dog and embracing each day and blessing with our sweet baby.

Also! The additional plus side is that we get a 25% discount on nail trims! Very funny and cute to me and a well earned discount

WOOHOO!!! smiley_clapThis is super duper great news for you and Cupcake, and all of us because this update = HOPE. What a gift! And yes there are some outliers, we do see them in our community and it's what gives every single person who has received that dreaded diagnosis the hope that they need to see the future is full of possibilities, and some are incredible like this smiley16

I love that they are giving you a discount on nail trims icon_lolWe've often joked about that around here but I can't recall anyone actually getting that discount. Maybe Cupcake is starting a trend there. I hope so!

Did you ever get a chance to talk to your vet about the Yale vaccine?

It was definitely an uplifting visit in the sea of the bad ones. Hope is there with us and keeping us strong. Of course Cupcake doesn’t let anything get in her way especially during zoomies!

I spoke with him about it and he hadn’t ever come across it so he didn’t seem super open to looking into it or about how to go about it. I’m hopeful that with continued check ups every few months, as long as no mets pop up, it won’t be something that is crucial to get into. From my understanding everywhere is currently under waitlists and if he won’t request the vaccine then I don’t foresee it being a part of our future. I would love for her to be a dog of science and help future dogs with this diagnosis but as of now she just has to keep beating the odds.

I’ll also let the Vet school that did her amp know so they can look deeper into her specific mass and see if there's anything different from a typical one they can learn fromsmiley4

Cupcake makes us ALL stronger!

I'm glad you mentioned the Yale vaccine to your vet. I hope more people do so that treatment can be more widespread and costs can come down (it's quite expensive). For now, follow your gut and you can't go wrong. You know what is best for your girl!

I had forgotten you went to a vet school. Which one did the surgery?
