The videos about broke my heart!!! Max came running in when he heard the yelping ... although before Murphy had surgery, if he yelped, Max went crazy at attacked him, so it wasn't a great time .... we actually had to buy a muzzle for him to protect Murphy when they would go out to go potty. Max would just be trembling, too, so you could tell it was something he couldn't control.
I'm so glad that the chief surgeon is so willing to take a look and try to figure out what's going on. And that you have a plan! Whew! I feel so bad that you've been dealing with this for so long. Hopefully it's something he can fix tomorrow and Oliver will be so much better!

Hi everyone,
Dr. G. just called and let us know that he thinks the problem is Ollie's sciatic nerve. When he touches the incision area, Oliver doesn't have major discomfort. However, when he touched near his rear on his back, he howls out. They are going to investigate with an ultrasound and then inject local anesthesia into the nerve to see if that takes his pain away. If it's the culprit, Oliver will be opened back up to cut more of the nerve endings off and to relieve his pain. The doctor informed us that this would be a much less serious surgery, requiring a smaller incision, and it should take care of Oliver's pain. This is contingent on the sciatic nerve being the source, which we won't know until later today.

So it is nerve pain - but really acute, poor babe! So happy they found it and were able to move right into action! Waiting to hear he is out and it is taken care of!

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly. His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.
