Hi all!!! I wanted to give you all an update on Keira post surgery!
So her surgery was yesterday 7/11! She went through it perfectly and the vet said there were no complications at all! She walked with assistance for the first time today. She is currently on Tramadol for the pain. I spent a little time with her but had to go to work however my boyfriend was with her. As I was on my drive to work he called me to say that he turned around to check on her and she had stood up all on her own and started walking!! (with assistance from her handy lean-on couch!) She sort of squatted with a tiny bit of help and only peed on herself a little!!! She also was daring and wanted to try stairs and almost made it half way! (she needed help after that)
She seems a little bit depressed but she is really surprising me at every turn. I'm so proud of her! I'm going to keep an eye on her personality and see if it improves with time but I understand why she's upset!
Thank you all for all of the support so far! I cant wait to be able to spend the day with her tomorrow and see her progress for myself! I'll keep you all updated.
YAAAAAAAY KEIRA! Surgery is over and recovery has started!! Such a relief!!!
She is just beautiful!! I could lookat her pretty face all day! I know you are so proud of her!
Yeah, no steps if at all possible! They can be mighty rough on stitches! She sounds like a strong willed little girl!
Looking forward to more great updates! It's still a rough road the next two weeks, butmit's worth it!
Hugs!!

Yeah. My boyfriend took her out yesterday and she just went at them for like 3 steps. He grabbed her when she stopped. We haven't let her at the stairs since. She is drinking and I even got her to eat which really shocked me because she's finicky about food when she hasn't had major surgery!
Fantastic! This sounds like a GREAT recovery so far. Huskies are so resilient.
Try to remember it's not so much as being depressed as it is that her exuberant pawsonality isn't used to being mellowed out with pain drugs. Once she's off the tramadol her sparkle will come right back.
Let us know how it's going, we're cheering you on!

I'm still full of questions being so new to this. Is it normal for there to be a red spot that almost looks like a puddle below the incision site? I'm a bit confused on what a seroma would look like and I'm trying to make sure she doesn't have excess fluid pooling.
Oh yeah, we all.asked tons and tons of questions! This is such a worrisome time and you feel like you are swimming in completely uncharted waters without a life boat. Just stay connected to us and we will keep you attached to lifeboat! I could not have made it through happy Hannah's recovery without the support and knowledge of this community! I stayed connected to it like it was the berry axygen that I needed to breathe! And I'm still connected!
The seromas are not uncommon at all and really not anything to be too alarmed about. If there is any leakage you just want to make sure that it is a light colored fluid, maybe a touch pinkish. She did have any bright red blood or pus or be very very smelly then that could be a sign of infection waiting to happen. Of course I know that and if you have any real concerns just give you a call.
My happy Hannah had a huge fluid pocket for probably close to two weeks. It never really did leak and it never needed any additional drainage from the vet. Eventually the fluid was really absorb back into her system. The area around her incision site was quite colorful, very bruised and lots of bluish purple red coloring
It could also be just a bit of reaction to the sutures. Why don't you go on and take a picture and posted here just to give you the reassurance that everything is ok, and it is!
You hang in there, you are doing a great job! Its very very hard not to worry but that husky of yours is one strong! She will do just fine. Herparkle will be back before you know it.
Sending you extra hugs tonight and be sure and give Keira big smooch for us too.

Carolyn never hesitate to ask us, or your vet, questions, that's why we are here.
It sounds like a normal seroma . Is there any smell or leakage?
When in doubt, call your vet.
