Hi fellow Tripaw parents!
My girl Bailey recently had her front leg amputated due to osteosarcoma. X-rays showed no signs of the cancer in her lungs, so(after much thought) we decided to go ahead with the surgery. We don't want to do chemotherapy. I don't think chemo is the best option for her in the long run. We do, however, want to prevent the cancer from coming back by flooding her body with good nutrition, and a diet that won't encourage the cancer to return. Do you have any experience with cancer diets? Such as which nutrients to include, which foods to avoid, etc. Right now we are still in the "post-surgery appetite loss" phase, so I'm basically feeding Bailey anything she will eat (I'd love tips in that department, too!). We're focusing on a whole-foods diet with lots of home cooked foods. I've never cooked completely for my dogs before so I have some stuff to learn there.
Thank you so much! Your responses are much appreciated!

Hello heather and welcome!
I put Manni on the Dog Cancer Diet
http://dogcance.....erDiet.pdf
and while I'm obviously not sure if it helps it makes me feel better and Manni loves it. It is fairly time-consuming ( I cook about once a week but it takes a while to prepare) and, at least over here, kind of costly. But this way at least I can be absolutely sure of what my dog digests and we're in month 14 with osteo so it can't be bad 😊
I'd never cooked for my dog before either and the book gives you pretty good guidelines. Hugs from Tina and Manni

Osteo and amputation in Dec 2015. Second, inoperable, primary osteosarcoma found in June 2017.
The end of our adventures came Dec 10, 2017. 2 years to the day.

Yes! You will find many helpful blog posts in the Tripawds Nutrition blog . You surely know by now that cancer feeds on carbs, so a high protein grain free diet is best. Many members have shared their nutrition plans in the Eating Healthy forum too. Don't miss Jerry’s Canine Cancer Diet and Supplements, we did not do any IV chemo with him either.
While you wait for comments from others, use the Advanced Search above to refine your forum search results with specific phrases, and you're sure to find lots of helpful feedback.
