Ok ladies, here is just one of many links to an amazing giant of a pup that weighed 170 pounds.
Eurydice
https://tripawd.....oodpecker/
Cemil, the giant Anatolian Shepherd

Atlas, 130 lb Dane
https://tripawd.....irst-swim/
There are more... and many that had hard beginnings. Please take a moment to check out some stories and know that it IS possible for them to be running and playing again. Eurydice actually dug in the sand at the ocean!!
Sending you both hugs and as much pawsitive energy as I can
Hugs,

He got up repeatedly. He face planted 3 times and then gave up. I praised him effusively for his efforts. He has to figure it out.
1 - he is eating and drinking
2 - he is peeing and pooping
3 - his incision is healing well and the gross swelling around the site is dramatically reduced
4 - when not plagued by the need to evacuate, he is calm and still.
No, not "good" news. This is GREAT NEWS!! HIGE, GIGANTIC VICTORY!!!
AND HE GOT UP THREE TIMES??? HUGE, HUGE VICTORY!! ( We don't count rhe number of faxe plants around here for front leggers. They are just part of the figuring it out process). Your Max is a very determined and strong willed dog....and those are pawsitive traits to have during recovery!
A D STANDING OVATION TO YOU ON SO MANY LEVELS!!! Ues, a hooman's "perceived " problem duri g eecovery is EXACTLY what motivates Max to get up! He wants to pee and poop outside..........and he willl!
These thing that I think are a problem appear to be what is motivating Max to get better.
I am ashamed of thinking I needed to consider euthanasia. People on this site have tried to tell me but I just didn't hear it. I had to emotionally accept what had happened before my brain could kick in. In nursing, the brain kicks in first because the patients are not loved ones. I love them all after the first meeting but it is different. The brain got there first.
And no ma'am. Felling "ashamed" about anything around here is truly forbidden. In fact, that word is now officially (or unofficially) banned from your posts! We understand NOT hearing when one is exhausted and overwhelmed with a state of fear!! "Hearing" is much easier when you get to "see" things for yourself and process on your own timeframe!!!
Beautiful and courageous job of sharing your self awareness with us!! Thank you!! It will help others too!! You are a gif, not only to Max, but to those Human Souls who are privileged enough to be in your circle of compassion!
Extra ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
PS. Maybe your husband could take Max out on a blanket right next to his favorite pee spot. Kinda step away and just let him soak in the scents. He may try to get up again.
Shhh.....one more thing....shhh.....oir secret little "test'. Okay, here we go. Shhh...... Have your husband pee on Max's favorite pee spot. That is also a motivator for a dog!!! Now, of you jave neighbors in a subdivision enjoying a cook oit....well.....yoj may just want to bring a cup of "it" outside and pour on the spot😎😎😎
And btw, Maxw will be Max again in every way!!!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
I’m so sorry that your buddy is having a hard time. We have a lab/shepherd mix who had a hind leg amp for osteo in January. His surgery was on a Friday. On Tuesday night I was in tears talking to oncology saying we had made a horrible mistake. Wednesday morning he got up on his own for the first time. I’m hoping this is the case for you and I hope he’s starting to make some progress.
I see I missed some posts and he’s starting to move a bit. Don’t be ashamed on how you were feeling - we definitely had some thoughts as well. I hope he continues to improve. Every day is a gift 💜

He walked this morning!!!!! and when I got home from work today he had climbed up off the floor onto his favorite couch. I asked him to come outside and he walked (albeit slowly and painfully - and only one face plant) outside and did his business. I am absolutely ecstatic. We love them so much and you are absolutely right. Each day is a gift.
