Hi All,
I am new at this and had a question. Sadie is 1 month post amp and sometimes when she is laying down or just standing, she will cry a quick cry of pain. Sometime she will wake herself up out of a deep sleep. Is this phantom pain ? Have any of you had any experience with this? What can I do for my girl???
Thanks,
Brian

The symptoms you describe do sound like phantom pain . Here is another helpful video discussing that and other common complications.
Hope this helps!

Awww, sorry sweet Sadie is having some "ouches". The Admin Guy gave you plenty of links to go over.
Yep, sounds like phantom limb pain. Comes on out of the blue quickly. Dog usually lets out a yelp or a whine and tries to get up and run away from it. Fortunately it's very short lived, but it certainly scares the dog..and the human.
Just calming and comforting words and gently massaging the dog help. Talk to your vet and he will probably give you a prescription for Gabapentin.
Let us know how she's doing, okay?
Hugs to that sweet girl!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Aww, our Jack still gets those with symptoms exactly as you describe, not sure what we can do other than comfort and massage
