Hello to all,
Our Irish Wolfhound, Fiona, is two days post op and we are facing all the challenges I've read so much about on these boards. Thanks to all the helpful folks who preceded us down this road! We have some serious ice and snow here in Minnesota, and while we have ramps at all crucial areas and are helping her with towels and temporary slings, she is having a terrible time keeping her footing outside. I am looking into footwear with treads to improve her grip, but the Ruff Wear Grip Trex boots do not come in her size. Her foot is just too big. We have found the Pawtrexx by Barko Booties online and I wonder if anyone has experience with them Here is a link: http://www.alld.....wtrexx.htm . Or, how about any other snow/ice traction boots for those pups with giant feet? Thanks in advance!
Ice always scares me with my tripawd Daisy. She's weird when I try to put anything on her so booties are out. We've been lucky that we haven't had much ice or snow here in Missouri since her amp last December.
Some on here have recommended Musher's Secret for general traction . It's a paw wax that helps keep their pads supple. Don't know if it would do much on ice though.
Have you tried putting plain old cotton people socks on her? Maybe kid sizes would fit? I read somewhere that for people to get traction on ice to put a pair of socks over their shoes. I never tried it so don't know if it really works.

Sorry- I live in the SF Bay Area, I have to drive 2 hours to get to snow.
I did use Musher Secret on Tri-pug Maggie's paws, it helped keep her pads supple and gave her better traction on slippery floors. I think it is made to keep ice balls from building up between the toes.
Have you checked out the Traction Section of our Gear Blog? Maybe there are some ideas there for Fiona.

Kris I'm so sorry I missed your post. Check out the suggestions that Karen pointed out.
We've never tried the PawTrexx or heard of them before so I can't comment there. That's a bummer that Ruff Wear doesn't make them in your size.
Another option is to have some custom made. We found these folks, and they've received a lot of applawse:
